True Blood is Truly Addicting,
By Kessa Lynn (BC, Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: True Blood: The Complete First Season (DVD)
I recieved this boxset as a gift from a friend who was urging me for a while to watch True Blood. I was a little iffy about the whole vampire thing with all the twilight stuff out right now. I didnt enjoy Twilight the movie (but loved the books!), so i was hoping it wouldnt be as cheesy.Thankfully my hopes came true! This whole season is amazing, sexy, addictive and great for anyone who loves or hates vampires! I am SO glad I got into this show. I am now a super fan!

True blood is one unique show. You would think a vampire show is just that, biting necks etc. Not True Blood, you never know what to expect? The cast is really good too, Anna Paquin has reinvented herself. From word of mouth or just watching for a few minutes, people willing be gluedto this series just as much as the Soprano's.

Authors who write vampire stories always try to find a fresh angle to tell the vampire story. True Blood is based on "The Southern Vampire Mysteries," a series of novels by Charlene Harris. The HBO series and the noveles uses the intertwining lives of inhabitants of Bon Temps, a small town in the deep south. It is part Peyton Place and part murder mystery. The fresh angle in True Blood, is that the vampires have come out in public and are seeking their civil rights. This has been made possible due to the invention of an artitifical blood called "true blood." Many vampires would like to remain predators and continue prey on humans. Drawing victims to seedy vampire bars. Many humans hunt down vampires and use vampire blood as a drug, that they call "V." Meanwhile, roadhouse waitress, Suzie Stackhouse is isolated by her telepathic powers. One day a vampire comes into the bar where she works and she cannot read his mind. Bill Compton, who in the way of all good vampires, is aslo troubled by his lot and he becomes a careful suiter to Sookie. Most of the first series is deticated to the romance of Bill and Sukie. This is complicated by a series of grisley murder that seem to connected to Sookie's hapless older brother Jason and whose victims are woman who have been known to associate with vampires. The series is a good adaption of "Dead Until Dark", the first novel of the series. There are some changes from the book but the adaptation works very well. Anna Paquin is wonderful as Sookie. Her Sookie can be both steadfast and vulnerable. This is the way of romantic heroines. I liked the fact that Stephan Moyer underplays the vampire love interest. His Bill Compton is the vampire as troubled, heartbroken loner. I liked the always reliable William Sanderson as Bon Temps' no nonsense sheriff and the wonderful Stephan Root as a hapless vampire, kidnapped to have his blood drained by addicts. As the secrets of the Bon Temps are revealed in the series there is a great deal of explicit sexuality, drug use and some violence and I would not recommend it for a younger audience. A little too grown up younger fans who have finished reading Twilight and want more vampire stories.

True Blood is True Entertainment,

Not only is this series saucy, funny and dramatic, but it is also a series that makes the viewer think. Many topics such as hatred, prejudice and tolerance are featured in this delightful series. The show focuses around a sweet-as-pie, telepathic waitress, Sookie and the people of the lazy fictional town Bon Temp. All hell breaks loose in Bon Temp when a vampire moves into the town just as a string of murders begins to occur setting the course for a great show. Each of the lead characters is completely lovable and believable from Sam, the man secretly in love with Sookie, to Tara, Sookie's best friend and Jason, Sookie's dimwitted, player brother. The show is ripe with sex and sexually suggestive scenes along with some violence so I wouldn't advise it for younger viewers.

the BEST VAMPIRE show on tv!!!,

This show really grabbed my attention. It's got great atmosphere, spooky antebellum mansions in the mist...graveyards...but also real people, normal lives becoming supernatural, and the use of Merlottes' as a way to introduce characters and stories is fabulous. The Vampire Bill is so romantic, the longing he shows for Sookie is really ohhh sooo romantic..he's a real dark, brooding character like Heathcliff or the original Dracula with Frank Langella. And, hey! Vampire Eric the Viking, well! He's just a great sexy, yet scary character, you never know really can you trust him? All the characters in this story are really great, Lafayette is a scream! Very interesting and very well done. I like the show better than the books!

I don't have HBO and saw an episode on the in-flight tv service from Toronto to Edm last Nov. I was immediately hooked by the funny, in-your-face humour and the OMG did they really do that twists and turns of the plot, and of course I also love a good ol vampire story too.I decided to treat myself to season 1. I was lucky enough to catch the Amazon Boxing Day Sale, so I got it half off, yay! I asked my boyfriend to watch it with me, who's never seen a review on the show or a commercial or anything to do with it. We're both hooked! As it is HBO, I'd like to warn you, there's a lot of nudity, lewdness, and profanity. A LOT. So if you're looking for something they might show on CBC, this is NOT it. I really like the storyline so far, and I know it's going to get better. I like the acting and each episode leaves me wanting more. Very vampire-like!!! I will definitely be buying Season 2 when it comes out, and subsequest seasons that come out for purchase. |
