Two of the strangest people you could ever meet end up as step brothers when thier parents marry. The laughs start at the opening credits and last the rest of your life. One of my favorite comedies of all tims

this was a very disappointing movie for me.the redband(restricted)trailer i saw made it seem very funny, raunchy and edgy.the reality is,it was none of those.i found it much too tame, considering my expectations.a lot of what was in the trailer was toned down.and i barely laughed.if you're expecting edginess, this is not the movie you're looking for.there are a few crude and lewd moments, and some crude language but nothing that hasn't been seen or done before.i also thought the movie was slow, and on the verge of being boring in some areas.you might like it if you're a Will Ferrel or John C. Reilly fan.for me,though this was one very disappointing movie.i give Stepbrothers a 2/5

Another winner from Farrell,

Step Brothers is simply hilarious. Although the "grown man acting like a boy" concept is not exactly new, Farrell and Reilly make the formula a winning one. They play a couple of 40-year old losers who still live with their parents and haven't grown up yet. There's tons of vulgar gags and poopoo humour, if you're into that kind of thing. Laughs galore abound.

Men will be boys,

"Now look at them yo-yo's that's the way you do itYou play the guitar on the MTV That ain't workin' that's the way you do it Money for nothin' and chicks for free" (Dire Straits) Well - at least the money for nothin' part is applicable, if nothing else. Short Attention Span Summary (SASS): 1. Will Ferrell plays Brennan Huff, a 39 year old unemployed man-child with arrested development who lives with his mommy (Mary Steenburgen) 2. John C. Reilly plays Dale Doback, a 40 year old unemployed only child with arrested development who lives with his daddy (Richard Jenkins) 3. Ferrell and O-Reilly make Owen Wilson and Matthew McConaughey look classy in similar slacker roles. (You, Me and Dupree , Drillbit Taylor , Failure to Launch ) 4. The trouble begins when Brennan's mommy and Dale's daddy decide to get hitched, hence the title of the movie. 5. Extended period of hissy fits, pouting, potty humor, fart jokes, indecent language and bad behavior follows 6. Circumstances (and a restless audience) make it necessary for them to grow up in a hurry 7. Movie wraps up within minutes in total absurdity, the highlight being a lip-syncing performance of Andrea Bocelli's excellent "Con te partirò" (Time to Say Goodbye) This was pretty much over for me in the early stages, as the "men will be boys" punch line wore thin very quickly. The writers opted to substitute crass humor and bad language for true comedy, and even though it has a few funny moments, many scenes are nothing short of cringe-worthy. This would have been better off as a SNL skit than a full length movie. Amanda Richards

I am writing this review as I am watching the movie. What can I say? I guess the movie is intended for 12 or thirteen year olds, but i cant stand it. Is stupid movements, swearing and people getting hit with random objects funny. If it is then, i cant believe what the movie industry is coming to. I love comedy movies but i have not laughed at all through out this entire movie.

This is a movie about 2 40ish year old guys that still live with their parents. The parents get married, forcing the 2 40 year old step brothers to live together. Basically the 2 men act like they are still 10 year old kids and that's supposed to be funny. The movie is so bad I just shut it off about 1/2 way through. Anyone who likes this movie must not get out much. You want a great comedy, watch Waking Ned Devine. This was junk.

Sorry, but after reading the first inaccurate OPINION of the first person reviewing this movie, I felt I had to give it some justification. My wife and I went into this movie with very low expectations. I personally thought it wasn't going to be very good, but I was way off. Step Brothers is a surprisingly smart comedy. Don't get me wrong, there is alot of toilet humor, but it goes hand in hand with what the movie is meant to be. Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly were the perfect cast for it. Who else are you going to get to play a couple of 40 year olds with no sexual experience, unable to do anything for themselves and still living with their parents...? Folks, don't get me wrong, this movie is as ridiculous as it gets. SHUT OFF YOUR BRAIN FOR IT... stop overthinking. It's an f'n movie! Take it for what it's worth, because it's a riot. I was seriously in tears watching it, because it's just completely over the top from start to finish. For two grown men to play spoiled little children to perfection like Ferrell and Reilly did is truly impressive. They did their homework. From sleepwalking, to pee swords, to "making sex" and everything in between, this movie is hilarious. I kid you not. But again, shut off brain. |
