Mr. Bean: The Ultimate Collection,
This review is from: Mr. Bean: The Ultimate Collection (DVD)
A favorite of mine! Can't quite get enough of this British actor. You never think anything worse can happen to him, but somehow, it does.

A terrific collection of Mr. Bean. I didn't care for the 2 animated Bean discs, but the TV and movie discs are worth watching again and again.

Mr. Bean goes to France,
This review is from: Mr. Bean's Holiday (Full Screen) (DVD)
British actor and comedian Rowan Atkinson stars in Mr. Bean's Holiday! In here, his character gets to go on a getaway trip to the famed French Riviera and wins a video camera at a raffle. Mr. bean records everything throughout his travelling and also goes out of his way in helping a boy Stepan in reuniting him with his dad. Mr. Bean ends up being separated from Stepan at the bus stop when trying to retrieve a bus ticket and finds himself all the way in the country. A kind lady Sabine picks him up as she is on her way to the Cannes Film Festival who happens to have a green Mini just like him! Even their names sound alike! Bean/SabineThis movie is just as great as the classic live-action TV series, including the animated cartoon adaption! I haven't seen the first film Bean The Movie, though. If your a fan of Mr. Bean, give this a shot!

I bought This DVD to watch with my 5 year old grandson when he comes for sleep-overs. It is visual with highly amusing situations and has become a ritual viewing at least once during visits. It provides a quiet "down-time" that we can enjoy together.

I remember the great sense of anticipation so many people had way back in 1997 when it was announced there would be a Mr. Bean movie. The British comedy series based on his character is pure comic genius, and established Atkinson as perhaps the best silent comic since Chaplin. Alas, "Bean the Movie" was a dissapointment, as it was apparent that the silent comic magic of Atkinson was hard to maintain throughout a feature-length film. And alas, "Mr Bean's Holiday" is also a dissapointment, although not without its entertaining moments. The film provides us with a good euro-trip experience, as Bean fine dines in Paris restaurants, travels by rail, hitchhikes on the countryside and attends the Cannes film festival, all with disastrous results. Definitely worth a go if you're a Bean fan, just don't expect a masterpiece.

Once again, Rowan Atkinson provides us some good time laughing and enjoying a light and relaxing story. I've watched it more than once and have always enjoyed it.

Not For A Waiting Room,
By
This review is from: Mr. Bean: The Ultimate Collection (DVD)
The DVD's were purchased for a Dental Office waiting room entertainment. Our clients love them! BUT the receptionist has to use the converter every half hour or so to continue into the next set of segments. It would have been better if all the segments were continuous without pause until the very end. This is a great DVD collection for great laughs BUT maybe not for a waiting room...the receptionist is getting annoyed!

I admit, this film isn't as funny as some of the TV episodes, but then it's not a 22 minute episode. It's a full-length film.Mr Bean "wins" a camcorder and a holiday in France, and these things bring new challenges for Bean and laughs for us. As a result of his windfall, he has to deal with navigating through Paris (not speaking a lick of French), a horrid meal (he deals with it in a funny way that's better than in the TV episode), and with a young boy separated from his father (thanks, of course, to Mr Bean), among other issues. The boy, played brilliantly by (at the time) newcomer Maxim Baldry, seems to know Bean's OK (more or less), but the boy's father thinks his son has been kidnapped. Throw in a nice-looking woman, Sabine (Bean: What's your name? Sabine: Sabine. What's your name? Bean: Bean.), and everything spirals out of control. Twists and turns keep the story moving along, including Bean getting caught up as an extra in a film that being shot, and, in the end, all ends well for Bean, the boy, and the boy's father... no thanks to Mr Bean. |
