Wonderfully Crafted,
By Henry Wallace "Review Guy" (Saskatoon, SK Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Wonder Woman (2-disc Special Edition) (DVD)
Wonder Woman is one of the best comic animated movies around. It is intelligently written, with many humorous lines, and some solid voice acting by the characters, especially that of Alfred Molina. The storyline is very engaging, making the movie a believable tale the viewer can lose themselves in. I would recommend this movie for any Wonder Woman fan, any comic fan, or anyone who has an interest in Greek mythology.

I liked the story, and I think that the voice acting is better than Wonder Woman from JLA animated; however, I do recommend JLA animated Wonder Woman episodes for more tense stories. I mean, in one she pulls her mother out of the gates of hell; that's tough to beat. But this story still holds it's own. Great animation, too.

Speaking as a fan of the DC comic world, this movie is definitely a buy for all super hero fans out there. The animation is suberb, excellent voice acting and a great story. Word of warning though, the movie has some violent scenes and adult situations that are not suitable for young children.

the best animated feature from DC or Marvel to date,
By
This review is from: Wonder Woman (DVD)
this is DC comics latest animated feature, and it is good.in mymind,it's the best animated feature from both DC and their rival Marvel.the action is outstanding, especially the fight scenes.the dialogue is good,as is the voice acting.there are some big names lending their voices here, and all suit the characters very well.i also liked the story, though how accurate it is to the comic book i don't know.i do know it's nice to have a strong central female character who can hold her own with any guy,and i don't just mean physically or intellectually.there is actually a pretty funny scene which illustrates this point, but i won't get into it here.anyway, hopefully in the next couple of years or so a live live action Wonder Woman film will hit theatres.anyway, for me,this animated Wonder Woman is a 5/5

I really love the graphics and scenery in this straight to DVD about the origins of Wonder Woman. What I love most was the bonus features which gave a very informative background of how Wonder Woman came into being back in 1941. It was a "Wow!" moment for me because I never knew the story of the creator nor his background as an early feminist, way ahead of his time. I was astonished to realize the impact that this comic book had on children, especially girls. Nor did I know that the very first issue of MS. magazine, that came out in 1971, had Wonder Woman on the front cover. The bonus features are very good to find out the origins of Wonder Woman and about Greek mythology that is use as her background. There is also a bonus feature of two Justice League of America films. A must buy I have to say. Especially for women who wish to relate to such an empowering woman.

Just a Great Movie from start to finish,

Don't get me wrong - in general I don't like animated movies but because of a strong voice cast and because I like most liked Wonder Woman comics as a kid decided to purchase this DVD.Boy what a great move that turned out to be. From start to finish this is a great movie with great voice acting and lots of action - all voices are good in this from Keri Russell as Diana/Wonder Woman to Virginia Madsen as her mother and Alfred Molina as the bad guy "Ares" ... Nathan Fillion's Steve Trevor no slouch either. There is great chemistry between Steve and Diana - something which in my mind was sadly lacking in the TV series but what I like most is the utter determination of Diana as Wonder Woman - she never gives up in this movie - and seemingly against all odds manages to thwart a stronger opponent in Ares. Good voice cast, great writing & action - just a great buy and a great movie DVD. Only 1 complaint it was too short for my liking - this has to be the best Wonder Woman movie I have seen.

One of the best DC Comics movies,

Now this movie has got me to love this DC Comics super-heroine. When Steve Trevor, an U.S. Army fighter pilot, crash-lands on the mystical island of Amazons (warrior women) called Themyscira, the rebellious and headstrong Princess Diana defies her queenly mother by accompanying Trevor back to civilization. Meanwhile, Ares, the god of War, has escaped his imprisonment at the hands of the Amazons and has decided to exact his revenge - intending to start a world war that will not only last for centuries but will wipe out every living being on the planet, starting with the Amazons! It is up to Diana to save her people and the world by using her gifts and becoming Wonder Woman! This is an awesome movie. It is very well written, and the animation is really cool! One of the best DC movies along with the live-action Batman movie. The story was perfect, funny full of suspense; And really worth the PG-13 rating. I don't have a favorite scene (as I said many times), because I love the WHOLE film - from beginning to end.

Wonderful Wonder Woman for an older crowd,

After viewing several DC and Marvel Animated motion pictures and seeing the over-modernization (especially the over-sexualization) that they have done to the characters, I expected the worst from Wonder Woman. Mind you, WW always was pictured as a full-bodied amazon, so it seemed less vulgar than expected when you hear one character make a comment about Wonder Woman's "rack" (using that exact word). They tackled the feminity of WW with the RIGHT ADULT approach. They gave WW a very feminist activist tone and attitude... Quite far from the way-too-nice Linda Carter rendition of the amazon. The animation is great. I give high marks to the coloring, which is silky smooth and razor sharp at the same time. A real feast for the eyes. The scenario is one of the best from DC or Marvel. It will remind you of the 60s peplums, before it dives into modern-day action. The "creation" of WW takes up most of the 1st half hour of the movie. It will please the WW fans and Sword and Sandals fans in general. The usual WW gimmicks are brought in the movie at a steady pace, but with no precipitation. It is simply a beauriful well balanced animation film..A good mix of story-telling and action scenes. As usual, the adders are worth the purchase price by themselves. The Marvel Comics fan that I am, inserted the disk in the DVD player with no great hopes. After 70 minutes (perfect length) of pure delight, i realized that I had been very well entertained by a DC Universe hero..

I just loved this movie. My only complaint and it pretty minor, 70 minutes seemed too short for this film. Gail Simone crafted a great story, can't wait for Green Latern.

WONDER-FUL MOVIE!!,
By Shelby Chameleon "TorontoMovieLover" (Toronto, Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Wonder Woman (2-disc Special Edition) (DVD)
For anyone who was a fan of the tv series and comic books, this animated movie focuses on the origin of Wonder Woman, Diana on Paradise Island, and how she came to be in the world of Man.An Airforce pilot crash lands on the island and is captured by the Amazons and questioned. Once they get over their mistrust of him, they decide to help him return home. An amazon escort (Diana) is given the Invisible Jet and sent with him to find his way back after winning a series of physical challenges. Before they leave, it is discovered that Ares (the God of War) who was being held prisoner on the island, has escaped after he convinces his secret amazon lover to help him escape to wreak havaoc on Man's World. With amazing animation and action sequences, I thoroughly enjoyed this film. It is a fun ride for anyone interested in Wonder Woman, the ancient Gods and Goddesses or just a really good story that is a fun ride from beginning to end!! |
