1.0 out of 5 stars Not the Japanese SHM CD
I purchased this album a few months back with the understanding that it was the SHM CD from Japan. This was not the case. It seemed strange that a SHM CD would be listed for such a cheap price. The average SHM CD is around $30.00 or more. I thought that maybe Amazon was just having a sale and getting rid of them, so I bought it.
When i got this album, it was not in...

5.0 out of 5 stars Dokken's Apex, May 4 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Under Lock and Key (Audio CD)
This rates as one of my favorite albums. I first got the tape in 1986, and ever since then I've always admired Under Lock and Key. Everything's covered-heavies, mid-tempos and ballads. Don Dokken's voice is great, and George Lynch plays at his best, especially on the solo to In My Dreams. It's melodic hard rock at its finest. Also has a really impressive album cover. Definitely recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best of the Best, Feb. 16 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Under Lock and Key (Audio CD)
Dokken were the kings of the Heavy Metal\Hard Rock world....All of their records were great, but "Under Lock & Key" is their best effort!! Don Dokken's vocals are un-matched by anyone and George Lynch is simply the GREATEST axe player in the past 20 years....BUY IT!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent follow up to Tooth and Nail!, Feb. 12 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Under Lock and Key (Audio CD)
Dokken picks up where Tooth and Nail left off. Except Under Lock and Key is a bit more complex, with better vocals and George is turned loose a bit more. This album has more slower songs toward the end yet they all rock! Lots of love type songs which is very typical of the mid 80's rock bands.
If you're a Dokken fan, this one should be standard fare and I consider it their second best album only to Back for the Attack.

3.0 out of 5 stars hard rock with an edge thanks to great guitar playing, Jan. 20 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Under Lock and Key (Audio CD)
Probably the best of the dokken albums though I'd also recommend the following album "back for the attack" both have probably a good half dozen songs each that are prime examples of what this band were all about when they were at their best. On this album you get the heavier side of dokken for tracks like "lighnin strikes again" & "til the livin end" which are a little bit formulaic but are saved by the guitar playing of George Lynch, one of the most underappreciated guitar players in metal circles, the tracks to really look out for though are ones like "in my dreams", "its not love" (my personal fav!), "jaded heart" & "will the sun rise" where glorious power chords abound along with great solos & vocal hooks to drag you in. Probably just too heavy to really make the band megastars.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Unsung King of Rock of the 80's., Nov. 26 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Under Lock and Key (Audio CD)
The 80's were a hard time for music. With MTV poisoning music from the television, Dokken got caught up in that Fashion Rock. Unfortunately it masked the true brilliance of this Rock and Roll group. Like other 80's Unsung Kings, like Queensryche, Dokken was unfairly labeled Heavy Metal... They are more just hard riviting Rock and Roll. Under Lock and Key was an album that I listen to regularly. Songs I can sing to, songs I can relate to, and songs I can sit back and simply enjoy. If this album was out today, it would be a smash, just as long as they stayed off MTV and kept their hair cut. They were the cream of the crop in the 80's, just that nobody gave them the respect that they deserve.

4.0 out of 5 stars George Lynch could make Polka sound good!!, Sept. 10 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Under Lock and Key (Audio CD)
Right from the start, 'Unchain the Night' grabs you and doesn't let go until a couple of filler songs toward the end. Even then it bails itself out nicely with the screaming, back and forth duelling guitar licks of 'til the living end' to close out the disc.If you like Dokken, this will more than satisfy.

This review is from: Under Lock and Key (Audio CD)
This is really a great rock album. The songs are well crafted and the Lynch's guitar playing is masterful. It's great to drive to, and it's a must for every guitar player. It is trully worth the purchase. If you love rock guitar--get this album. Trust me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Kicks A**, June 24 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Under Lock and Key (Audio CD)
This is the one CD that you'll always come back to for more. The production quality, and song playing is outstanding. From the demonic intro to , "Unchain the Night," to the intense guitar solos throughout the CD, this one's for keeps. (George Lynch has won many awards for his guitar work, one for the solo in, "In My Dreams.") I recommend this CD to anyone who loves 80's hard rock.

2.0 out of 5 stars Hey, we were all young once!, May 29 1998

Only thing that saves this CD from a 1 is the song "In My Dreams!!" Dokken was to '80's metal what New Kids on the Block are to Country music, NOTHING!! Next!
