5.0 out of 5 stars L'histoire d'un sacréfice humain, Mar 26 2013

5.0 out of 5 stars I'm not tired of Will Smith yet, Mar 9 2013

this is a very interesting story about what really matters in life; integrity and the cost of atonement which can take unexpected turns and twists. Smith sells it; I doubt too many actors would have been able to pull it off.

4.0 out of 5 stars Shakespearian atonement, Jan 24 2009

Short Attention Span Summary (SASS):

1. Will Smith stars in a blockbuster movie that's not released in the summer
2. If you didn't like him in Pursuit of Happyness, you won't like him in this one
3. If you can survive the rather boring first section, you'll get by just fine with the rest.
4. Essentially, Will's character is working on atonement for a momentary lapse of concentration two years prior to the events of this movie.
5. He's willing to give an eye for an eye, and his pound of flesh where necessary
6. He sure takes his time getting it done.
7. Box jellyfish should not be served fresh over crushed ice.
8. Rosario Dawson and aforementioned jellyfish steal several scenes.

This is a rather long, slow drama, as opposed to the action stuff you usually associate with Will Smith. He does however act his socks off in this one, as he works on his own personal redemption programme. Rosario Dawson provides strong support as his love interest, and even though their roles are short, look for Woody Harrelson, Barry Pepper, Connor (son of Tom) Cruise and of course, the jellyfish.

Good acting, good casting, interesting concept, but the screenplay could have been trimmed substantially, especially at the beginning.

Ben Thomas: "In seven days, God created the world. And in seven seconds, I shattered mine."

5.0 out of 5 stars Powerful, Jan 3 2010

This movie was somewhat overlooked in terms of not being one of his high budget action hero movie and in this he turns in a great dramatic turn in a unique story.

It is put together well and from the first moments when he is rather un Will Smith like (i.e. not likable) the story develops and unfolds as bits and pieces are revealed and hints are dropped.

Very well done story and a very strong performance by Will Smith again. The other parts of the cast, including Woody Harrelson, are great. Not fast or exciting, just a good griping story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your time to watch this movie, if you are ......., April 7 2009

I will not review this movie, but I will first ask you what kind of person you are before you watch or buy this movie: If you are those kind of people that LOVE talking on the phone or checking your Blackberry during driving, I will say forget about this movie, since you are a person who DO NOT care about others, so what's the point to waste your time to watch this movie, that end up you will feel so stupid or bore. Since you don't care anyways. You can just wait until one day you kill somebody by accident, because you using your cell phone during driving, then, may be this movie has a little meaning to you after all.
On the other hand, I don't see why Will Smith has to finish his life to save ONLY 7 life. Personally, I think he should remain on live, and save MORE lifes on earth, like go work for those non-profit org. or go help UN to make the world better, instead of just doing those stupid things. Save more lifes to pay back those you killed, that's the possitive way.
