4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent musicianship, yet quite understated, Feb. 28 2014

This is a great album for listening with a contemplative mood; yet despite some appealing melodies, it is perhaps too understated and too low key in stretches.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fantastic new step., April 9 2012

Great Lake Swimmers takes on a more fluid departure in their fourth CD. Whereas Ongiara sounded like an echo reverberating into all parts of the soul, Lost Channels sounds like music you can turn up a bit louder on your stereo system. It's not something that's meant to be played quietly by yourself on an introspective adventure only. It's a journey meant to be shared, and thus its sound is a little bit more appealing for the masses in my opinion. It still is a great album, but it doesn't leave you as fragile as listening to Ongiara.

All in all, another great leap forward for Great Lake Swimmers. Can't wait to listen to their next album!!

I read a review in the local newspaper about this album and so purchased it. I love the eerie, haunting sounds and harmonies. A virgin no longer I bought a second, and then third disc. What can I say? Lovely music.

The first Great Lake Swimmers album was so wonderful, it seemed they'd never match or top it, but this latest CD finally has gone beyond that great record.

5.0 out of 5 stars not standing still, yet on a familiar path, April 4 2010

Somewhat more adventuresome and refined that their last disc, Ongiara, a worthwhile disc both artistically on its own as well as progressively for the band.

As for personal preferences, you judge.

Boths discs have their merits. Personally, to these ears this disc less self-involved and less nostalgic, which I prefer.

A Canadian treasure on their way to Hip-like stature...
