I didn't come to this game with high expectations (not being a fan of westerns myself), though I now regard it as one of my all-time favourite games. This is primarily on the strength of the story, which I will not spoil in this review. Suffice it to say that Red Dead Redemption makes a compelling case for video games as an artistic storytelling medium.

The graphics were good for their time, and still hold up. The music is perfectly matched to the setting, and will send chills up the spine of any player with a soul. The Red Dead Redemption Original Soundtrack is the only OST that I have ever purchased. The voice acting is generally good, although the accents occasionally seemed forced (at least to my ear). Certain parts of the game can be repetitive. Red Dead Redemption is serviceable as a third-person shooter, but is hardly the best in that genre from a game-mechanics perspective. Consistent with other titles from Rockstar, the polish of the game is undercut by controls that seem slow and inexact.

I played the multiplayer and downloadable content only briefly. This is likely a matter of taste, as I have heard many rave reviews on these features, but I found them uninteresting. This is mostly because they do not take place within the game's central narrative.

In my opinion, this is a game worth playing, even if only for the story. On that topic, I cannot praise it enough.

The game requires a reasonable time investment (about 30 hours for a reasonably complete playthrough; perhaps only 20 for less obsessive players), but is well worth it.

Online multiplayer that lets you play with a group of friends and become the most bada** gang in the wild west.

Quite possibly the best story I've ever experienced in a video game. Beautiful cut scenes, with fantastic dialogue and a very entertaining cast of characters. The gameplay, with the exception of a few glitches here and there, is extremely playable. It's almost like Rockstar games has given you a character (John Marsten) that they want you to develop yourself. Amazing game overall, one of the best of the year by far.

I am an old school gamer and prefer to play button mashing arcade games, however I feel this game is great.
Graphics are great.
Game play is interesting and fun.
Characters are well developed.
This is one of my favourite console games.

Since the moment I started playing this game, I got into the old western movies. The game counts with great grafics, not trying to be real, but with it's own identity. The movies aren't that long, and there are enough tasks to keep you immerse in the history.

This game is very good, kind of like grand theft auto except in the wild west. The story was great, one of the best endings ever. Multiplayer is fun also, you can run around the area with 15 other people. Great game, glad i bought it, you shouldnt hesitate to buy it either.

I do not have a single complaint about this order. The game was on sale when I purchased it, so I saved money there, and it came in one week (faster than the earliest estimate). I held off on playing it until I was finished exams, but now that I've been playing it over the last four or five days I can't stop. Great game, great service from Amazon.ca!

This game plays like a dyslexic GTA. Everything is out to kill you and take all your goods you've worked for. Shooting is a fluke if you actually hit anything. So they put a cheat in to auto fire on target for a limited shots. When you run out of the cheat it's stupid hard to hit anything. A simple thing like roping a horse is imposable and stupid. You start the mission in daylight but takes so long your still trying till it's dark to catch a horse. So now you have to try to do it in the dark. which brings me to my next issue with many games. I spent a lot of money on consoles, pc, graphics to see stunning scenes and play fun games then these game developers hide half the game in complete blackness. what's the point? If i wanted to play in the dark a blind fold is a lot cheaper. There's realizem then there's just stupid. At least have the option to turn the day night cycle off so we don't have to play in the dark. Unplayable game after 6-8hrs.

I've been having a lot of fun with this game. It's like a GTA, but in the Old West. Sometimes it's a little bit slow, but nothing to worry about. I absolutely recommend it!

Good storyline, Did not have the heart to finish Zombie Nightmare. Gets boring after a while. If you like shooting things, buy this game. if not. Definately a very good Rental. For Greater challenge take off the auto aim. Multiplayer online is great but again gets boring once you've done everything. An overall rating of 6.5/10.... I'd rather play Clash Of Heroes or Borderlands.
