3.0 out of 5 stars For the casual fan-3.9 stars
You know, with either alice in chains "live" or "nothing safe" Columbiba never really screens these albums very good, and espeacialy since there main objective to send these to the "genral public" and of course with "nothing safe" there are some factors I would like to point out. First off, to the casual AIC listener or to someone who is new to AIC, this would be a wise...

This is ridiculous, it came in a paper like pizza box
I don't think they will last more than 3 mouths
no inside cart, nothing plus there is NO TRACK 16(again remix)

Amazon should give me another CD
except for that
amazing unreleased tracks!
Again track 14 is well remastered

4.0 out of 5 stars An excellent choice for any AiC fan!, Mar 9 2004
I am a very big fan of early 90's grunge and rock music like Nirvana,Stone Temple Pilots,Red Hot Chili Peppers, I don't really listen to this new age "sell-out" rock. Alice in Chains has the best song lyrics and vocal melodies, and in my opinion has the most talent out of any of the bands I have mention above. "Nothings Safe: The Best of the Box" is a C.D that you HAVE TO OWN if you like any type of early 90's grunge rock and or heavy metal. The first song I heard from AiC was "Man in a Box", I instantly fell in love with the song and decided to look into the band more, learned some more of there songs, and picked up this C.D,the rest is history!
The best songs in my opinion on this C.D (in no order) are:
"Get Born Again"
"Angry Chair"
"Rooster"
"Down in a Hole"
and "Would?"

5.0 out of 5 stars (Almost)Definitive Collection of a Great Band, Dec 20 2003
By
Angel L. Reyes (Orlando, FL USA) - See all my reviews

This is it, folks. You won't hear a better best-of from any band as "Nothing Safe," chronicalling AIC's brilliant career. There's no need to waste money on the earlier "Greatest Hits" album, which contains fewer hits, zero new songs like "Get Born Again" and the demo version of "We Die Young" heard on "Nothing Safe," and sounds less than steller. OK, as in most greatest hits collections, there's always too few hits from the band you can put to record (or disk)for a serious hardcore fan like me, and so "Nothing Safe" is missing a few songs I consider essential: "Dirt," the title track from their breakthrough second album (a number that's played as often as "Would" on today's rock radio stations); "Heaven Beside You," which, along with "Rooster," happens to be one of AIC's best musical efforts (still puzzeled why they excluded it here- even "Greates Hits" has it!); and "Sludge Factory," another winning track from their self-titled 1995 album. Still, I guess "Nothing Safe" works as an incentive to listen to other AIC's work, and I am certainly greatful that this collection has persuaded me to check out their other albums. Plus, there's no denying that a handful of the classics, as well as a few surprises, are prominantly featured. If you are a first time fan, this is the starting point for your AIC collection. RIP Layne Staley- You and your band will truely be missed.

5.0 out of 5 stars The real "best of" Alice in Chains, Nov 28 2003
By
paul_howard "paul_howard" (San Ramon, CA United States) - See all my reviews
So often, "best of" CD's fall far short of that claim. And the (formerly released) "best of" Alice in Chains is no exception. This collection is, for my money, the real "best of" for this group. If you're other than a die hard fan who would want to own their whole collection, buy this compilation and forget or sell the rest. Every cut is a winner. Together, they portray the breadth and depth of this group's styles, lyrics and originality. I regularly rotate my Cd's, but it will be a long time before I'm ready to part with this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing, Nov 23 2003
Now I'm sort of a newbie to AIC, and this was my first album I picked up. Seemed logical to get the "best of" first.

This is one of the best CDs I've ever heard.

Very dark, heavy, depressing, provacative, and intelligent.

Track by track:
1. Get Born Again (Demo) -***1/2- Great dark opening riff. Recorded in 1998, Layne sounds just as awesome as ever.
2. We Die Young -*****- This is a previously unreleased demo of song. Probably the best on the album. Very metal.
3. Man In The Box -****- Goes without saying that this is one of AIC's best songs.
4. Them Bones -****- Another classic.
5. Iron Gland -**1/2- Just that weird little "Iron Man" thing from 'Dirt'.
6. Angry Chair -***1/2- Very cool rock song.
7. Down In a Hole -***1/2- Soft change in the pace. Great stuff.
8. Rooster (Live) -****1/2- Very surprised by this. I always sort of thought that this song was overrated, but this version made me love it. Even better than the studio version. Much slower and darker.

9. Got Me Wrong (Unplugged) -***- Nice song.
10.No Excuses -***- Another one of their radio staples. Very good tune, although a little light for AIC.
11.I Stay Away -****- Quite possibly AIC's biggest hit. Excellent.
12.What The Hell Have I -***1/2- Cool rare song from the "Last Action Hero" soundtrack.
13.Grind -*****- Arguably the heaviest track on here. Brilliant. The title fits its "grinding" metal melody perfectly.
14.Again -*****- This was the song that got me seriously hooked on AIC. Like 3 songs in one. Absolutely have fallen in love with this song.
15.Would? -****1/2- Awesome.

I would highly recommend this album to any fan of grunge, rock, or heavy metal.

Don't get "Alice In Chains Greatest Hits". I repeat DON'T GET GREATEST HITS. This has 9 of those 10 songs plus 6 more.
That's really it.

4.0 out of 5 stars The best single disc collection., Sep 16 2003

H3@+h "Over 1500 reviews!" (thanks for the helpful review votes) - See all my reviews
For the most part, this is a great intro to "Alice In Chains". Far better than the other "Greatest Hits". All the big songs are on here, "Man in the Box", "Would?", "No Excuses", and "Grind". Plus the new song "Get Born Again", a live "Rooster", and the soundtrack song "What the Hell Have I". The only things missing for me are "Nutshell" and "Over Now". Overall though this is a great package that will fit nicely next to your "Soundgarden" and "Nirvana" hit cd's.

This is a good album, of course it is a greatest hits album, so it better be. The only thing I don't like is the interactive internet [stuff] it has...makes my computer lock up...other than that..great cd, i think it could use some of the "Unplugged" stuff in place of a few tracks it has...but thats my opinion!
