5.0 out of 5 stars A love letter to Canada
You don't have to be a Canadian to love this movie - but if you are you will recognize the identity and culture of our great country reflected in every stretch of highway and every turn of this fantastic movie.

I absolutely love it! So much of this movie is simply stated, moving and beautiful.

The acting is flawless, the landscape is breathtaking...

There is a lot I like about this movie. It has Joshua Jackson in it. it takes place in Canada... a huge majority of Canada. He stops at every "BIG" sight seeing atraction in every province he goes through. There's a very dry sarcasim to it as well.

I absolutely love it! So much of this movie is simply stated, moving and beautiful.

The acting is flawless, the landscape is breathtaking. You will want to buy a bike and start your own journey!!

Do not miss this film, Gord Downie's short scene alone is worth the price.

I highly recommend it!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars An Inspiration!, May 21 2009

I was impressed with the idea of the movie since I saw the website and completely drawn to the theater. My expectations where more than met! A very intelligent narrative of the story and great acting, that takes us to the core of the principal character (Ben). This story is about our own struggle, how e sometimes make decisions in our lives to please others rather than to be happy with our selves. He needed a Cancer prognosis to wake him up and realize that life was happening while he was still trying to figure it out. I enjoyed seeing Joshua Jackson in this role since I truly admire him and believe he has tons of talent, he is smart, sexy and a bit cynical, which fitted perfectly for the role of Ben.
Now regarding the exceptional portrait of Canada, I have to say I felt struck at my core to see not only the amazing natural beauty of this Country, but also how the personality of Canada came through this movie in such a subtle but intense way.
As others have said before me, do not expect this movie to have a complicated plot, just expect the evolution of a simple man into a great human being.
5-Stars and definitely will be an addition to my collection.
I hope to see much more Canadian talent like this movie in the future!!

This movie has been used in many kitchen table discussions over the year or so since we have watched it. My husband has watched it several times. Any movie that provides such varied fodder for discussion in our house is a winner. Not only the personal reactions/plot line, but the scenic clips of the cross Canada tour, of which we have travelled a portion on our own bike have been brought up many times. A simple movie that provided more value than many over priced Hollywood films.

I have seen this movie on TV and wanted to have a copy to own. It is not an adventure film, but I enjoyed the subtle humour and the sensitive parts. I have travelled out to Banff and it was a trip down memory lane to see the landmarks highlighting the western provinces of Canada. Reminiscent of the Vinyl Cafe style storytelling by Stuart Maclean.

Watched the movie and thought, what a good movie about the way one man deals with a tough situation. I have traveled across Canada several times and laughed every time I recognized an iconic landmark in the film. Friends have said it is a bit artsy or is just not funny Nope, it's not a laugh fest but it is about a guy, a motorcycle, and a great way to get something out of your system.

This is the best movie I have seen in a long time.

Simple, basic, real people dealing with real issues.

It made me laugh, cry, think and think again.

I loved it, and want everyone to see it!!

as a bonus, it made me want to explore my beautiful country even more than I do now!!

I loved this movie, when it came out in the theatre. The main character's search for himself. Finding a reason for his life after drifting along not knowing what he really wanted. A quiet sad movie, but with a surprisingly hopeful ending.

And the journey he takes physically as well as the emotional one is very satisfying.

I've travelled across Canada by car on summer holidays and had seen a lot of the places he sees, so nostalgia plays a role in my enjoyment as well.

If you had one week to live, what would you do? That's the premise behind this comedy-drama about a school teacher who learns he has cancer. He embarks on a trip across Canada and so gives us a road movie guided by his witty voice-over. Sometimes that narration is overdone, but his discoveries on the trip and his struggles with his girlfriend keep this film moving forward. The DVD comes with several bonus features including a fine audio commentary by the director and footage of an audience preview. A terrific film worth seeing.

5.0 out of 5 stars This Movie has the Total Package, Aug 24 2009
This review is from: One Week (DVD)
This movie has it all. Wonderful script, acting, music, scenery and story. Watching it is like taking a tour across Canada to the tune of some of Canada's great musicians. The story, in theory, seems like it should be a very private series of moments: a man going on a road trip after being diagnosed with a life-threatening illness. But not once does it feel like the viewer is intruding on the life of Ben (Joshua Jackson). The viewer makes the journey with him, leading to a beautiful feeling of resolution at the conclusion of the film.
This is by far my favorite Canadian film. I could watch it again and again and never grow tired of it.
