For some reason, my previous review of this album disappeared. I will resubmit to warn people how bad this album is.The only way you'll like this album is if you're 14 years old, angry at daddy, and hate your teachers. If you've matured beyond teenage angst, or like musical talent and songwriting skill in the music you hear, don't bother with this. The songwriting just keeps going downhill with this band. Otep goes out of her/their way trying to sound catchy, and it's so obvious it's painful to hear. Lyrically, her/their politics are generally well-meaning, but so simple-minded and oblivious to the bigger picture it's really sad to know that it not only comes from adults, but adults who claim to be politically aware and active. For example, telling you to smash the control machine, but then she'll tell you to vote for Obama! Hey stupid, Obama takes his money from the same places (corporations) Bush did. Musically, this sounds like any old 14-15 year old's high school band. The fact that this comes from supposedly professional musicians who are on their 4(?)th album is just pathetic. |
