5.0 out of 5 stars Castlevania:Lords of Shadow, June 1 2011
Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Xbox 360 Standard Edition (Video Game)
This game is beautiful, stunning graphics, intriguing puzzles all different from each other and excellent fighting mechanics. The story is quite long and narrated by Patrick Stewart(proffesor X from Xmen), also there is a high replay value as you can only reach certain weapons upgrades by achieving higher powers later in the quest. With light & dark magicks to keep the fighting from being boring, gorgeous cut scenes, rediculously large bosses(different way to beat each one that'll keep you thinking) and an arsenal of secondary weapons this game is worth playing. The only thing that keeps this game from being spectacular.... fixed camera, with no real usage of the right analog stick other than absorbing magic. It can get frustrating when you can't see around a ledge or the camera along with your body position changes, but your direction stick stays the same and you are walking sideways. Aside from that, I am glad I purchased Castlevania:Lords of Shadows.... and for a Kojima Game(Metal Gear Solid)the cut scenes are not that long.

3.0 out of 5 stars Could have been better, Aug. 21 2012

I was a little disappointed.

The game is very linear, the enigmas are repetitive and are too easy to solve for the most part. You always know where to go, when and why.

On the other hand, they still managed to get a playability that is pretty good. We can revisit stages anytime we want, and there is a side quest that gets unlocked for every stage once we have gone through it once. The battle system is perhaps the best asset of the game. As you go along, you unlock various combat abilities which make the game more exciting.

This is a great title! IGN gave this game a rating of 7.5 but it deserve a 9 at least! At this price, this is a very good deal.

In my opinion, this game is way better than GOW. You have puzzles, fights, and what GOW is lacking, a good story !

1.0 out of 5 stars Castlevania in Name Only, Feb. 26 2012
Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Xbox 360 Standard Edition (Video Game)
If this game was titled Lords of Shadow without the Castlevania in it, I would have been quite pleased. However, for an old school fan of the franchise this game is an absolute travesty to the Castlevania franchise. It has done nothing but divide the Castlevania fan base.

Gone are the wonderfully eccentric musical stylings and driving beats of Michiru Yamane, and replaced by an absolutely generic 'Hollywood' movie score from some Spanish idiot. The art direction and style has moved towards a boring Lord of the Rings/D&D western look and away from the wonderfully imaginative Gustav Klimt-by-way-of-manga inspired work of Ayami Kojima. Castlevania was once well known for its extreme difficulty. Well, no one can accuse this game of that. Taking the lead from other game companies, by targeting a more general audience, the difficulty curve is set far below that of previous entries.

I am thankful for one thing about this game, and that this copycat of Devil May Cry and God of War is a reboot and has absolutely no connection to previous titles in the Castlevania franchise. I will keep this game but I'm going to Photoshop the Castlevania name off the cover and create a new one that says Lords of Shadow only. Hopefully, Konami will not sully the franchise any further by continuing to associate a possible sequel to this game with Castlevania.

For a fun romp, it is what it is. If you grew up on the older Castlevania titles Lords of Shadow is worth a play through, but do NOT go in thinking that you are playing a real Castlevania game because it isn't. For those who have never played a Castlevania game this is a perfect title for you since you will not have any preconceptions going in, and will not feel the utter disappointment and sheer devastation that true Castlevania fans have felt when they stuck this Western developed piece of crap in their console. Oh, and for those people that say, 'Hideo Kojima help make this game so it's real good.' All he did was consultation work on Gabriel's facial design and that was it.

David Cox can go suck my Cox for destroying this beloved franchise!
