Loosing something over the years,

In retrospect it's possible that "Simple Things," their first album in 2001 with 72 minutes of 14 excellent tracks, set the bar too high. In my opinion each album since then has been diminished in some way in comparison to the first, and this sadly follows that trend. "Yeah Ghost" seems to have lost much of what appealed to me from their previous albums, namely a light groove, mellow sound with catchy rhythm. The 45 minutes worth of music left me vaguely unimpressed even after a few listenings. The vocals provided by the various singers are fine, but the content seems lacking. There are a few tracks (i.e. "Swing" and "The Road") that fall into the same vein as their earlier work, but the majority of songs don't seem to have the same flow. I can appreciate an artist's or band's desire to branch out, but to my mind their original formula worked the best, and this experimentation has only left me yearning for a repeat of "Simple Things" or "When It Falls."

The only thing that saves this album from being a total failure is Martha Tilston's vocals on "Pop Art Blue". Other than track 5 there's nothing to see here.
