Even if you haven't seen the film, this disc is a joy to listen too, especially if jazz is your style. I find it a complete departure for Randy Neuman, who wrote all songs except for one, "Never Knew I Needed", performed by Ne-Yo and written by Shaffer Smith. It has a true "New Orleans" taste to it!!The voice cast from the film sings the songs themselves, unlike other Disney animated films where usually an accomplished singer "fills in". (Don't get me wrong on that last point - Anika Noni Rose(Tiana)can sing, but I doubt many people know her...) Kudos here go to Keith David, who as the voodoo man "Dr. Facilier" sings "Friends on the Other Side". I always remember him as "King" in the movie Platoon. Overall, I would recommend this disc, whether you "always get" soundtracks to Disney animated features, or if jazz is what you like. |
