Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Jewel Master Egypt (Video Game)
This is a really fun (and addictive!) object-matching game. To win the game, you must achieve the status of 'godly Pharoah' by constructing ancient Egyptian civilization, beginning with a cluster of humble tents in the desert and working your way up to the Pyramids of Gizeh. Clearing groups of 3 or more objects from the gameboard will give you the necessary tools - food, building materials, and gold - to construct your civilization. Each stage of the civilization is progressively more and more expensive, meaning that you have to work more quickly & efficiently as the game advances - because there are only 100 levels in the game, and if you don't reach 'godly Pharoah' status by the end of Level 99, the game will not let you win: the very first time I played, I could not afford to build the Pyramids until the end of Level 100, at which point a message popped up that unfortunately I had not reached 'godly Pharoah' status in time and the game was over.
The game is divided into sections (Dynasties) and each dynasty has a certain number of construction objectives to accomplish (for example, Dynasty 1 contains Settlement, Well, Camels, and Fields). Before each new objective begins, you see a screen telling you your objective and how much food, building materials, and gold is required to reach that objective (for example, Settlement requires only 500 in gold, but Fields requires 3,000 in building materials and 3,000 in gold). Each level is timed - the Egyptian god Anubis stands at the right-hand side of the top screen, holding a large canopic jar filled with water; if the jar drains before you complete the level, you have to restart the level. Various difficulties to clearing each level are put in your way: shaded tiles that must all be cleared, locked tiles that must be unlocked & cleared, double-locked tiles that must be unlocked twice & then cleared. Bonus objects & materials can be collected on many levels (for example, collecting bags of wheat counts towards your food level; collecting water droplets can give you extra time to complete a level; collecting bundles of dynamite can give you the ability to blow up locks). Once you successfully clear all the level's obstructions, a scarab beetle will appear in the playing field and you must manoeuvre the beetle into falling off the screen in order to win the level.
A challenging and enjoyable game.
