After the success of 'Hello Master', expectations were high for the new offering 'Prior To the Fire', which was produced by David Schiffman (Mars Volta, Nine Inch Nails). The launch party started off with the band playing a DJ set with their favorite tunes. When they dropped the albums' lead off track 'Trapped In Space and Time', you can tell straight off that they were back with a heavier more aggressive sound! Cool. Although their influences are noticeable (early Metallica, Early Sabbath, etc'.), the band has continued in the evolution of what is becoming their own distinct sound. Track 2, :Ladykiller", and you really want to crack this up and get the air drums going! It is in your face, aggressive, drums pounding. Yes! This album is filled with killer riffs, catchy melodies, and great drumming ' especially nice rhythm on 'It Baffles the Mind'. There are no weak trax on this album. 9/10.

You may be impressed by this CD if you've been living in a cave for the past 30 years. (or if you're young and simply haven't listened to much music). But I fit into neither of those categories, and to put it bluntly "it don't impress me".It's not bad music. It's just not very good music. Do a little digging and you can find many bands who've done it before and done it better. I should know better than to expect much from any band out there today, it seems like they really don't understand what it is to actually create music. They just use the same formulas that every other band seems to use, and hope that people are dumb enough to buy it. Guess what? You are!

Prior to the Fire - Priestessi think there from the toronto area, please correct me if i'm wrong. this is good hard rock/metal. lots of great guitar riffs slicing through the vocals that make your spine shiver. i accidentally found this band on a music site, the album was Hello Master. their old work is just as good as their new stuff. sort of a cross between old styled rock and new styled metal. a nice combination of music. check them out. |
