5.0 out of 5 stars BLACK AND DECKER GLASS KETTLE
Good service. very quick delivery. This is a great kettle, looks good in the open plan kitchen/family room. Boils very quickly, the lid on our old one finally fell apart after four years hard labour, we don't think we opened it in the right way either...we finally read the instructions when we unwrapped this new one:) Would recommend it to any one, we have soft water...

2.0 out of 5 stars Lids breaks after a year
This kettle looks good and works well for about a year then the lid mechanism gets sticky and breaks off little pieces of plastic until the steam net function no longer works and then it won't shut itself off when it boils! So it becomes a fire hazard. A simpler design for the lid/shut off would be better. Is B&D accepting responsibility for this?

2.0 out of 5 stars not robust, Feb 11 2011
This review is from: Black & Decker JKC660BC 1.8L Glass Kettle (Kitchen)
The lid on this kettle is not designed well. Under moderate household use during a year or so, the release mechanism got sticky, then fussy, then broke entirely. I took it apart in hopes that it had simply come ajar, but the mechanics are based on a sequence of sliding, cam and spring-loaded parts that simply aren't designed to last. When a 3mm-ish piece of plastic breaks, there's just no fixing it.

The kettle would be better off with a low-tech friction fit for the lid.

The shape isn't bad - my petite wife prefers it in pourability to other kettles we've had.

If anything, it's probably too big - how many times do you need over a Liter of hot water? brewing tea for even a dinner party won't use 1.8L.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent kettle in both function and looks............, Jun 11 2012

I came to Amazon to check out this kettle because a friend of mine in the U.S. said these kettles are discontinued. It`s great to know they are still available because I am going to buy my second one in this style. The B&D Glass kettle I have has been with me since Nov. 2008. It has worked well, but then I am only one using it because I am the only tea drinker. I can quite understand the criticism that some of the other buyers are referring to in their review. My experience has been relatively similar with the lid of the kettle. But it`s shut-off works as good today as it did then. It is important to know how to close the lid properly, otherwise the auto shut-off will NOT work. It also has a tiny plastic strainer type filter at the spout. That started to break-up about 12-15 months after I bought the kettle.

Now for the pros, this kettle is a breeze to clean, and the electrical connection is recessed relatively deep inside the bottom so the water never gets to it unless it was done deliberately. And there is certainly no need to let the electrical socket in the kettle be exposed to water. Excellent design. I love the fact that it can be lifted right off the base and poured. In fact there have been times when I have had tea drinking company, on those occasions I have boiled the tea right on the table and used the kettle virtually like a teapot.

B&D you make a great product, but the lid could do with some improvement. Please do not discontinue the glass kettle because it high on utility as well as looks.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Kettle!, Jan 25 2011
This review is from: Black & Decker JKC660BC 1.8L Glass Kettle (Kitchen)
I have been using this kettle every day for over two years. It does what it is supposed to do and does it well. Just make sure the top is well closed, if not, it won't automatically shut off when finished boiling.

I had one of these but I broke it by accident! I immediately began my search to replace because I just couldn't have any other kettle. This one heats up in minutes which is great because others never seemed to be quick enough! I like the clear look of it and guests always comment on it when I make tea. I hope Black and Decker always make this and I never break mine again! :)

Great to see when the calcium deposits start and be able to clean right away. Baking soda works well to do this.

2.0 out of 5 stars Boils water well... but that lid?, Dec 27 2012
This review is from: Black & Decker JKC660BC 1.8L Glass Kettle (Kitchen)
It works well as a kettle, with the exception of the over engineered lid. Unsure of why the closing mechanism needed to be so complicated. Has not happened to me yet, but I can easily imagine it breaking as it has for some of the other reviewers.

I also can confirm that if you do not close the lid properly, it will not automatically shut off. I have left it unattended and come back to it boiled completely dry because I didn't close the lid properly. It caused some warping on the seal around the bottom of the glass, but did not fail. This strikes me as dangerous...

4.0 out of 5 stars Great kettle, Nov 24 2012

I love this kettle. Takes up a small amount of counter space and looks good. It is especially easy to clean as you can fit your whole hand into the kettle as the top opens up out of the way. My only issue is I have two extra bases as the kettle has cracked (because I knocked it against something) and you cannot just replace the glass kettle.
