4.0 out of 5 stars TONI successfully returns with a PULSE for TOP 40 !,
This review is from: Pulse (Audio CD)
As stated by the promo blurbs from her new overzealous label (Atlantic), PULSE maybe Toni Braxton's most powerful release in recent years.
It is without a doubt a strong and substantial return for this artist to recording material that is once again unforgettable and radio friendly.
Previously her recent recordings faltered and failed to contain any original material that would appeal and gain the attention of the public at large.
Unfortunately nothing previously released from Toni following her massive top 40 /AOR hit "Unbreak my Heart" contained a track as strong as the track that turned this sultry vocalist into a global RB recording artist.
This is not the case with the tracklisting on Pulse.
Toni Braxton can once again be considered as an artist who has officially returned to recording solid material that may forever leave in the shadows any trace of the embarrassing days as being labelled a reality television dance contestant & or featured vocalist within a campy Broadway musical.
Her ardent fan base will be pleased with the end result of PULSE.
Atlantic has done a great job in commissioning songs for this artist that would reshape her image while not confusing or insulting her original fan base.
PULSE showcases Toni Braxton distinctive vocal ability within a variety of different musical styles by highlighting Toni's unique vocal tone as being sensuous & extremely relevant.
Toni is a unique vocalist who instantly stands out within the current standards of contemporary pop music. One can instantly identify her vocal tone and styling within the first few bars of any track.
The bulk of material contained on PULSE is compelling yet fresh and extremely contemporary.
Tracks such as "No Way", "Pulse" & "Why You Won't Love Me" return to the lush origins of her initial R/B release and shall please her die hard fan base.
The first single - a track titled "Yesterday" (not to be confused with the song from the Beatles catalogue) is the ideal first single to solidly reposition Toni as being a sure bet to re-emerge and once again dominate the Top 40 charts.
The track "Yesterday" has an undeniable melody line with a resilient drum base perfectly produced to cater to fans of the contemporary musical styling of the "Kelly Clarkson" power hits.
"Yesterday" should reintroduce Toni to a new generation of fans as being a credible musical influence.
The track "Yesterday" demands to have numerous remixed versions made available to best capitalize on a strong hook line that will impact the club format globally.
It could rapidly become "THE" dance hit for spring and the summer 2010 within the dance community.
However Pulse presents Toni with the specific challenge of interpreting new material that will compete for the attention of the current Top 40 format.
This release takes full aim at Beyonce fans - the track "LOOKING AT YOU" is musically positioned to become the next "Single Ladies" for 2010.
"Make My Heart" is the perfect upbeat club track & the kind of song Whitney should have included in her faltered 2009 comeback attempt.
"Hands Tied" is a spicy R/B song that sounds as if it comes from the musical catalogue of Mary J Blidge.
Without a doubt this is much worthwhile purchase and will mark Toni's top 40 return as being a true "pop/soul" diva.
