If you liked the first Cranford, you simply must continue the story by "returning to Cranford". Shorter than the first but a wonderful convincing continuation of the first story, although omitting a few characters from the old and adding a few delightful new ones. Totally worth the money, I watched the whole thing through in the afternoon, then turned around and watched it over later that evening. A few spots (danger, death) that wouldn't be suitable for very small children, my 12 and 13 year old daughters loved it along with me.

I'm located in Canada. I ordered 'Return to Cranford' Blu-Ray from a British supplier. It will not run in my blu-ray player. I have ordered blu-rays from the UK in the past which did work, but there is some sort of block on this particular BBC product. So be sure to purchase only from North American suppliers. Note that my star rating indicates only that I have not been able to watch the series due to the issue listed above.

I love the Cranford stories. They are funny but realistic to the way life would have been at that time. I enjoyed these dvds and if you like period pieces, you will like this. Of course Judi Densch being in it really helps!!! Love her!

Return to Cranford is just as great as the original Cranford. So very watchable. The acting is top notch and the sets are so authentic. It just looks real - the cast is great and I have recommended this series to my friends as it is worth watching over and over again.

Delicious,
This review is from: Return to Cranford (DVD)
Return to Cranford was a delicious romp through mid-1800's, small-town England. We loved the first in this series Cranford and this two episode Return did not disappoint! The plot moves quickly with rich period detail and variety. The characters are wonderfully written and brilliantly portrayed. If you like tales from this era with vivid characters and cultural twists - you'll LOVE Cranford and the Return!

Poor Script,

I saw the original production of Cranford and quite liked it; however, I find the Return to Cranford sticking to the shirt tails of the original, but it slips off. The script is flat and even the wonderful Judy Dench can not bring this work to life. I really regret not liking it, but as a Victorian style it does not work. Sometimes it is better to stick to the original and not add a sequal.

Agreat follow up for 'Cranford' I love a movie that makes one laugh and cry and involve me in the intensity of their lives. I felt this as I watched 'Return to Cranford.'

Enjoyable from start to finish and beautifully acted. Illustrates the coming of the railway to a small English town and the huge implications thereof.

I enjoyed The Return to Cranford so much that I ordered the box set to see the original, which was fabulous.

Sequels,

I have to say that despite the quality of this movie, along with its expert tie-ins to the first movie, I was greatly disappointed by all the sadness. I suppose it is the story, but I don't like having to reach for the tissues quite so often. That being said, if you have watched Cranford, this sequel is a must watch to finish the story (even though the ending leaves a little to be desired).
