Good, but know the whole story...,
By HD Fan (Toronto, Ontario Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Claymore: The Complete Series [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray)
The anime adaptation of the popular manga has been done well up to a point but first time viewers should know that the anime changes the storyline significantly by the time we get to the last few episodes, and not for the better in my humble opinion.Initially the anime follows the manga quite closely and it is a pleasure to be able to see favorite characters brought to life especially in glorious HD on this Blu-ray release. Sadly in the interests of providing some sort of conclusion to the series, the anime concocts a hastily thought out ending, whereas the manga is still being written, with the latest chapter to be released in April of 2010. With the ending of the anime bearing no resemblance to the present storyline. So for first time viewers it could make for a good entertaining package in itself, however for fans of the manga note that you may be perturbed by the changes to the story line. Still I bought it and recommend others to do so to enjoy our favorite claymores duke it out in all their HD glory and hopefully it leads some viewers to pursue the `true' story in the Claymore manga itself.

Definite Rewatch Value,
This review is from: Claymore: The Complete Series (DVD)
Claymore is a gripping and addictive action adventure series. I won't bore you with a synopsis, you can get better written one's elsewhere. What I will give you is my impressions. While it might be more convenient to watch it in dubbed English, you'll definitely pick up on more nuances in the dialogue if you watch it in subbed Japanese. Aside from the obvious storyline Claymore also seems to deal with a lot of deeper issues, especially themes having to do with self image, reputation and loyalty. Not to mention the epic fight scenes, the moving and heart felt storyline, and masterful pacing combined with stellar music that drives one to watch episode after episode. Definitely a series to watch again and again.

Claymore is an interesting Manga series with predictable characters in an unpredictable world. The Anime is its more colorful shallower cousin. THe series is dark and violent, for fans of Guyver, Fist of the North Star, and similar gore dark world series you will be right at home here. Don't let the female cast disturb you this shares about as much similar with Sailor Moon as Aliens shares with ET. The episodic plot is for the most part episodic at first but it builds into an over arching plot that behinds to hold the series together. Like many anime based on ongoing series the ending to the anime diverges completely from the manga and in a very unsatisfying manner, but the rest of the series holds together well. The music is downright excellent ranging from melodically beautiful to creepy and disturbing, it is perhaps the strongest element of the series. While not holding a Candle to Berserk it is an enjoyable, dark series, with enough depth to keep it interesting and some surprisingly good moments thrown in.

Claymore,

It clearly is one of the anime of it's genre... It may be a little bit exaggerated about the blood spurting out from wounds but the story is clearly defined and I couldn't even thought how far it would have progressed in just over twenty episodes...

If you like anime then chances are you will enjoy this show. It is well drawn and the story is interesting. The action sequences are well done and look great, although I do think they talk a little bit too much while they are in the heat of battle. I cannot even count how many times these claymores were in the middle of fighting some ferocious baddy yet they still had time and breath enough to talk about the powers of their fellow fighter or something else like that.Still though, while I think the show could have used a little more polish in the writing department I still thoroughly enjoyed it and am currently watching it all over again.

One of my favourite adaptions of manga & anime's period, Claymore only had one issue which is that it was too short. It's main protagonist is female, the storyline keeps you in anticipation of the next episode and the character relationships are excellent. Great for both male & female viewers, Claymore is a unique idea that will forever be imprinted in your minds; I know, it has in mine. The anime is only the beginning of the story that is Claymore. *NOTE: To the best of my knowledge, the anime depicts only the first 10 volumes of the manga - it has been compressed even more so to fit the 24-episode series -. The series is up to Volume 18 (translated) to the best of my knowledge, and is well worth the read, as you find out what happens with Clare, Raki, Priscilla & the rest of the gang. *NOTE 2 UPDATE December 15 2010: I opened up my DVD's today to do some video making, and found that only the first disc would work at all (read, write, rip, etc...). The other five look as if they've been doused in water. !!!PLEASE BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR DVD'S RIGHT AFTER YOU RECEIVE THEM!!! There goes $60...

I saw some reviews claiming that the DVD quality was better over the Blu-Ray's and some stuff about the details in the eyes and the hilt of the sword, but fear not, after watching it on a PS3 with a Sharp Aquos HDTV in 1080p, none of these said details were seen, pure beaty and as immersive as ever, you will not regret your purchase!

This review is from: Claymore: Complete Series (Classic Line) (DVD)
