Okay folks.... I liked this movie. It's a ripping good yarn (if you'll forgive the awful pun). But it is fiction.... nothing more.

Anybody who claims this movie to be a plausible explanation of the Whitechapel murders... or describes it as being the 'most' accurate history thus far has NEVER (and I repeat NEVER) examined the actual record.

Enjoy this movie for what it is... but PLEASE do not be misled that it is anything other than a gripping horror movie VERY loosely based on some actual events.

Michael Caine does an excellent job as the man who tries to solve the series of violent murders. This is certainly the best of the Jack The Ripper movies. The next best would be with Johnny Depp in From Hell. This BBC production is solid from the writing to the cast of characters. Highly recommended but beware the DVD may not play in your machine if it does not support the right region code for this DVD.

This is an extremely entertaining and a very good dramastisation of the Whitechapel murders. It may not be a classic, but with its strong cast and excellent period detail, it is a thrilling story and will keep you entertained through out the movie. Inspector Abberline and Sergeant Godley were real-life people, as were others in the flim, so I did enjoy the short follow up after the end of the movie. This one I will enjoy watching again.
