Just to correct a previous reviewer, the mentor is not played by Leo aka Rumpole of the Bailey, but by Alun Armstrong, currently seen in New Tricks.
Great series.

This review is from: Garrows Law Series 1 (DVD)
This series meets the viewers need for authenticity in 18th century legal system and class conscious relationships. Garrow is not a Lord like a judge. He's a charismatic barrister who knows little about the law and constantly conflicts w/ his mentor solicitor (Leo McKern, Rumpole of the Baily -- tongue in cheek casting?) who tries to lead him and the prosecutor who tries to defeat him. This eventually leads to a dual over Garrow's attraction to another man's wife, Lady Hill.

Garrow's relations w/ others, for good or ill, stimulate Garrow and make fascinating viewing. Garrow doesn't interact w/ anyone without creating impact either on the person or the legal system. The authenticity of the legal history and watching Garrow bring about change kept me intrigued. As he inteacts w/ the judges, jurors, defendents and accused, Garrow creates a new system in the notoriousOld Bailey. As he interacts w/ Lady Hill the viewer is forced to ask the age old question -- will they or won't they? Clearly Lord Hill fears they will and hopes they won't.

Lady Hill is less clear and that would be my only criticism of the series -- would a woman have that much power and freedom in the 18th century or are the producers adding the expected love-interest? Either way their relationship creates tension. All the situations created as a result of interactions w/ Garrow kept this viewer interested enough to buy season 2.

5.0 out of 5 stars This series is excellent!, June 8 2013
This review is from: Garrows Law Series 1 (DVD)
I couldn't stop watching this series. The settings, actors, and the cases they chose to show as a glimpse into the legal history of the time were perfectly done. The producers, director, costumers all did a wonderful job in showcasing these cases. I wish there had been more episodes.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Gem!, March 2 2011
This review is from: Garrows Law Series 1 (DVD)
We have just finished this first season of Garrow's Law. What thrilling value for money! Excellent indeed.
What made this most exciting is knowing that it is based on fact.
This is the man that coined the phrase " Innocent until proved guilty."

Wonderful acting, wonderful sets and costumes.

VERY well worth the investment.
I will totally enjoy watching it a second time...and soon.
