Lexx: Season One

I really enjoyed this TV series and would give it a four star rating, BUT these new 4-6 `clipped-stacked' Alliance Films releases are really getting me `bugged' off. I've purchased over the last year Seasons of BeastMaster, Lexx, Earth: Final Conflict, RoboCop, Outer Limits: The New Series, PSI: Factor and all but a few have had at least two to all six discs loose in the case with scratches after opening them. I realized what's the use of returning them for exchange, as it will continue to happen again. The packing gets a one star rating and also because of my following note below, I can only give this Alliance Films release at best a three star overall rating. ALSO PLEASE NOTE: these new re-releases of Lexx on Alliance Films DO NOT contain both English & French soundtracks (only English) and the great BONUS FEATURES that were available on the original Acorn Media/Koch Vision releases.

Since no one ever did a comparison before, I took the risk and bought this. It isn't only box-graphics that's being "shared" with Echo Bridge on this release, the disc-content is, apart from Alliance/Interpol logos at the beginning, identical to the Echo Bridge release (in fact, after the Alliance logo, the Echo Bridge logo is seen on this, proof that they're using the same masters).

Like the Echo Bridge ones, there are 10 chapter points per episode rather than the nine that were on the previous Canadian release. I read on the internet quite some time ago that "I Worship His Shadow" has some slight dialogue censorship on the Echo Bridge version (unfortunately, the person didn't get any more specific than that), so I have no idea if this is accurate or not. If it was, then I'm sure the same thing would be true for this Canadian version.

At least it appears that the "clear tape" sealing the digipak into the outer box did NOT carry over from the Echo Bridge release. There was just plastic shrink-wrap around the package and once that was removed, the digipak slides out. No pesky tape to cut/remove and risk damage to the box graphics.

Also, no idea if the BACK of the box is the same as the US version, but on the back, they DO at least have a picture of Eva Habermann. Bizarrely, though, the wording on the back reads like they thought this was for the season 4 release, as it mentions the crew being "exhausted" following the events on Fire and Water.
