This is the second Johnny Reid CD I have bought. Music is very good, sort of Country Rock without the twang. He is also a great concert performer.

Well being Canadian I just have to say....Johnny Reid thankyou to your ancestors for leaving Ireland & coming to Canada. What a welcome to have your music touch the Canadian Music Scene & of course worldwide now I'm sure with this effort. This CD is just one of the best recently for us to enjoy!1.Today I'm Gonna Try To Change The World: The sentiment behind the lyrics in this song are absolutely awe inspiring. They show such appreciation & affection for honouring a life. This is what Johnny Reid does best in his songs..he is a truly magnificent storyteller. The grit in his voice is infectious and this type of voice is a big moneymaker for the music industry and this type of artist can go in many directions genre-wise. When you want to feel good about your life folks especially on a day when everything has gone wrong....listen to this song..it will take you out of any funk you might be in & for sure inspire you. 2.That Man Is Me: I love the bluesy instrumentation of this song....mixed with his gritty vocals. Somehow it reminds me of a song that maybe we could have heard back in the 60's during the days of Motown as it has a soul to it that is just great! So nice to hear a man speaking so frankly and confident about his feelings toward the lady in his life. Really loved the horns in this song as well. He has a really good group of musicians that accompany him. 3.Hands Of A Working Man: This song has what I would say is integrity, honour, respect and someone who admires and appreciates history and the steps it takes to be a success in life. It does have a man's prospective ...so all you ladies don't get your back up as we are forgotten in the lyrical content (at least as a frontrunner) but I don't believe it was his intent in being disrespectful to women but to convey a time in our lives when it seems that life seemed to be so much easier as there was a simplicity with defined roles. I would just like to convey that with his lyrics "This world turns in the hands of a working man" that being literative as I am....that it turns because of women too. But I fully understand & respect his feelings on this song...and that it is his right to interpet them in his own way to convey his feeling in that moment & time. It was written to me...much like a young man...who is no longer a protected, coveted child within the arms of his parents being reassured that everything will be okay when the family hits a bump in the road...and then much later in life his reflection on this time period of his life & his own struggle to succeed as a man in the world. 4.Doesn't Get Better Than You: I just adore this song...especially the guitar work in this song. So bluesy coupled with the lyrics & his fabulous voice. OMG....if some man wrote this song for me......just sign me up for life! How lucky! I would literally cry the first minute I heard him sing this song and get ready for the 50th Silver Anniversary party! Ha! Ha! Believe me folks when you hear this song..you already know how many weddings this song will be played at and you will be playing it that often as well. 5.Love Thing: This song to me is a definite throwback to the great Motown era of music like from The Temptations, The Sherells, Marvin Gaye, some of the greatest R&B artists of the 60's that can't be replaced but I think Johnny acheives the ability in showing his admiration for that music & the artists that imprinted that time in musical history. You just want to get up & dance to this song, which I'm doing right now.....okay please tell me the Webcam is off! Ha! Ha! 6.Tell Me Margaret: I cannot even key the words to express what I think of this song...that is how unbelievably rivetting this song is. It is a song about grief, loss and the effect on those left behind...someone that he obviously cherished deeply. The first time I heard it I had tears running down my face (& I'm not a sap...well at least not to me! Ha! Ha!) that's how much he literally rips at your heart with this song! What a way to show a tribute to Margaret! 7.Let's Go Higher: This song is a departure from the rest of the songs on the CD. It is an up tempo song somewhat and is quite appealing lyrically as are most of his songs. I would classify it as a Pop song in comparison to his other songs. Five out of 7 of these songs I have on my Favorite playlist & I know they will remain there until I bite the dust. The other 2 are on another playlist and any that I haven't mentioned from the CD is because these are the tracks that I liked that suit my personal musical taste so feel that the others would be better off critiqued by someone that liked those tracks as music is subjective. Enjoy this fabulous CD....buy it for everyone on your Xmas list this year because it's that good! Have a great day all!

I heard Johnny Reid in an interview on CBC radio and I was intriged by what he had to say, the quailty of his voice, and the content of the lyrics. I bought the CD and was captivated by his other songs as well. I was so impressed that I purchased a copy for my local library so as many people as possible could hear him sing.

We are delighted with the latest Johnny Reid CD, just as good as his previous three. The price was very reasonable and delivery period OK, considering it had to come from Canada to the UK. Thank You.

I fell in love with the first two CDs instantly and the third one grew on me. It's looking like this ones going to have to grow on me as well.Do I recommend it? Well, as someone who will be attending my 4th concert of his this fall... I'll be buying anything he makes when it comes out. My main problem with this is it comes across as cliched and a bit contrived. Like it' something that was expected from him rather than something that came naturally. I've been disillusioned with music lately so that could be what's colouring my point of view. I highly recommend that the deluxe version be purchased over the single version. There's a song called "What Used to Be" on the bonus CD that should've been included on the single CD. I heard it for the first time performed live a year back and loved it on first listened. There's another version of "Out of the Blue" that while great (love the song) should've been left out to allow for "What Used to Be". I'd rather of heard extra, different songs on the second dvd then demos of songs off the main CD. Mostly because I didn't love them. "This is Not Goodbye" is a solid song. Johnny has a way of swaying me to his cause no matter what he does. :P "A Place Called Love" (the song) is arranged beautifully - the little hairs on your arm will stand up. I don't like "Today I'm Gonna Try To Change the World". It just seems to be the "expected" course of action. However, I couldn't get it out of my head yesterday. So, like I said, an album that needs to grow on me. I have to watch the DVD yet so I'm hoping it's going to be the treat I think it's going to be. Buy it, Make up your own mind. If this is your first time buying a CD of Johnny's... I recommend going with one of the first three first. Better yet - get them all! :P

I have all 3 of his cd's. I think this one is by far his best. There is not 1 cut that I don't like. If I had to pick a cut, Tell Me Margaret, would be it.
