4.0 out of 5 stars Just hang in there...
The first 2 episodes are over the top, very 300-ish and a tad cheesy.. but hang in and keep watching this show gets better and better and better. There is a lot of sex and nudity (male and female), and of course blood, guts (literally) and death...but this show is like nothing else on TV. Many episodes leave you hanging and the season ender had me laying in bed for an...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, not Great
Spartacus will appeal on both the action and the thoughtful themes. The script is well written. The acting exceptional. But the blood special effects look artificial. The real problem with Spartacus is that it will be compared to Rome and Rome will win.

5.0 out of 5 stars This show is sensational but Andy Whitfield makes it a classic, Sep 16 2011

Visually spectacular, incredibly sensual and you fall after the first four episodes (used to set up the story and introduce the characters) the show takes off.

Despite all of that - Andy Whitfield makes this show. He was one of a kind.

Rest in Peace, Andy. I hope the second season does you justice.

5.0 out of 5 stars True and authentic Roman saga, Nov 17 2010

As I read an awful lot about the Roman era, I can tell you this serie is quite authentic (not you hollywood type of invention). It's very well made and the plot is really interesting. I would not advise it for the younger crowds as there is a lot of blood and violence - it's very realistic.

I would recommend to anyone who, like me, is really interested in the roman era. You may have to turn on the sub-titles as their English often is somewhat older but that's also a charm after a while and it reproduces the ambiance of that time.

I have already Spartacus 2 and has great same quality.
Historically it is not correct but it is entertaining.

4.0 out of 5 stars Guilty Pleasure, Not For The Sensitive Crowd, Sep 19 2011
By

I have thoroughly enjoyed watching this series. It has a "300" signature, and the plots, characters and pace of the show keeps you hooked. There is a load of graphic violence and nudity, so it is not for the faint of heart (I cannot recall seeing so much of both in ANY TV shows or movies), so beware if this is something that could potentially offend you. It is often gratuitous, but so is the whole show, and this will create a big gap between those who loved or hated the show. There is no in-between in this case.

I have found the characters to be very compelling, especially Andy Whitfield that gives an amazing, magnetic performance, in the likes of Russell Crowe in "Gladiator". His presence is strong and it is incredibly sad to have lost such a promising, talented actor. It is worth watching just to see this.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good but not perfect, May 10 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
We all know the story of Spartacus and some of us had an other vision of that story based on the Hollywood movie. But this time, we have a teleserie. I would say I was rather pleased by the story and action sequences. But something was missing and it was among all the time period reconstruction. Often the overview of Capua didn't look realistic. A certain touch of autheticity would have been better. So, it was a really good product with some less important flaws. I recommand it. I hope the next season will have Rome (the series) quality set.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent spectacle, Jan 13 2011
This review is from: Spartacus: Blood and Sand - The Complete First Season [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray)
For those who say its a cross between Gladiator and 300 - they're absolutely right. I have to admit, after watching the first episode I thought I was going to be disappointed, but the first one was the weakest by far. After that, it just got better and better. Graphic yes, violent? obviously, but so well done and the casting was excellent. John Hannah and Lucy Lawless were superb. (All best wishes to Andy Whitfield for a speedy recovery).

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Series, Dec 21 2010
This series is really well done. Its explicit though - with nudity. It is hard to follow sometimes, especially if you've missed an episode - so watch from the beginning. 2 thumbs up.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best series, Sep 12 2011
This review is from: Spartacus: Blood and Sand - The Complete First Season [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray)
First off, the special effects are far from top notch.

Well, that's all for the bad points. Spartacus has a high dose of Adrenaline ready for you with great fighting scenes, steamy-hot love scenes and an awesome storyline.

I would compare it to Rome, although while Rome centers on the main families and characters of the Republic through lesser characters, Spartacus is a tale of gladiators, of slaves.

A stunning series, I've already ordered Gods of the Arena.
