If your from Toronto this is a must buy. Michael Cera players an amazingly lame super hero.Movies good, exra features are good, comes with conept art, deleted scenes worth watching and steller movie stills. This movie will give you nerd chills, it will make you laugh, cry, scream well not scream but you defeninetly wil be in awe at what a good performance and quality CGI movie can bring. This movie has sound effects that will tantalize you. Look how much I'm writing about how good this movie is! MORE WORDS!!!

Scott Pilgrim 7: They Make A Movie,
By
This review is from: Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World (DVD)
Ramona. Scott. They Are The Cutest Couple In The World. And they go through a lot. And that's what makes them supremely cool. But first the pertinent details. Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World is the big screen adaptation of the world famous Scott Pilgrim graphic novels series by Canadian writer artist Bryan Lee O'Malley. Massive slacker Scott starts dating the wickedly cool Ramona, whose Seven Evil Exe's are in hot pursuit. Getting their relationship launched, while dodging these ceaseless surreal attacks, zips you through the movie. Got all that? Good, because it is the absolutely last time I am ever recapping it. Forever. Whew. Wait, didn't I say that before? So, to start off this story, what is the first part? They Meet. Even with Scott "dating" another, younger, girl, he is immediately smitten with Ramona Flowers. She is this wonderful snap to his feeble reality. Even her hair colour change only temporarily throws him. But an early monkey wrench occurs, causing them to... They Relive The Past. The spectre of Ramona's past with Evil Ex Gideon, coupled with Scott having his insecurities resurface because his ex Envy is back in town (and being exceptionally nasty), makes for troubles on the frontier of this budding romance. Which means our heroes must do the following... They Seek Closure. Scott achieves this emotional turning point first, with Ramona catching up much later. It is not always easy, but Scott is finally starting to grow up. But problems still persist, which means... They Fight. Scott's old idiotic decisions rear their ugly head, which paired with his moronic denial of past mistakes, create a cocktail of volatility. Leaving Ramona with no choice but to... They Depart Each Other. Leaving Scott wandering the street aimlessly, meandering along and being pulled back into his old pathetic slacker ways. Her loss to him is devastating, almost crippling. Will they ever reconcile? Let's hope so, because... They Are In Love. Okay, I kinda maybe give away the ending here. Possibly. But I still think most everyone watching this movie will figure out the ending long before it happens. And the main point still is, They Are In Love. This structure mirrors the main beats from the series, with only slight details moved or altered or deleted to fit the flow and time limitations here. What really ramps up with this version is the crazy insane spellbinding reality boinking fight scenes. Ancient laws of physics are butchered or suspended for these wild and wooly video gamesque fight sequences. My favourite of all is when Scott becomes a living puppet for Ramona when they duke it out with one psycho young lady. By the time you reach the end of this rollercoaster of fights both emotional and physical, you will be pumped for Scott and Ramona. They survive baggage resurfacing and flaming swords of understanding. Scott even manages to get a life. Which comes in very useful before the end. Scott and Ramona's time together is amazing and fun. Their colourful roster of friends bring all sorts of background to this tale. We all want this wonderful story to continue, the lives they live shown to us more. Scott and Ramona live in our hearts forever. By the way, Scott's band Sex Bob-omb is much better without him. Scoopriches

Bought this a while back and was my favourite movie of the year, watched it over and over. If you grew up with Nintendo I think it would be hard not to enjoy this movie. Lots of fun and something different.

Scott Pilgrim Verses The Commentaries,

This review is from: Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World (DVD)
As I said in my review with regards to the Scott Pilgrim comics series, I actually watched this film in theatres first before reading the books. I wasn't sure that I'd even try to review this here, but Amazon asked me to review my recent purchase and I decided that there are some things I want to say about this film.So first I would like to talk about the movie itself and then its DVD features. I really liked the film. The music that it begins with is excellent and it really hits a chord in many old-time console gamers out there. It also sets the tone of just what kind of film Scott Pilgrim will be and -- on a tangent and in retrospect -- it also makes you realize just what kind of video game character Scott Pilgrim's physical design is reminiscent of in the comics. I really like the comic book caption and scene structure in the film as well as its video game elements: particularly in its combat system or in how Scott fights the evil exes of Ramona Flowers. I will say that the characters of Kim Pine and Ramona Flowers really seem a little flat. They convey their mood and their personality well on a very elementary level, but there is only so much that they say or do in the film to round them out as three-dimensional characters. To me anyway, Ramona does not seem like a very sympathetic character in the film. In fact, one of the few times she does seem so is in one of the last Deleted Scenes on the DVD. But as I have said before, this film really is "an epic of epic epicness." It lives up to its hype with its arcade, comics and popular culture influences. I really enjoyed seeing it. Then we come to the DVD element of this product. I really enjoyed the Deleted Scenes: particularly the alternate ending. The irony is, I actually liked the alternate ending a lot more than the real one. There were just elements in the film itself that practically led to this other ending and I definitely think people who love this film and the Scott Pilgrim world will definitely want to check this out. There is a lot of supplemental material in the DVD as well with regards to sketches and potential foes that were never used in the movie: though they did get used in the comics and the video game versions of Scott Pilgrim. I was disappointed by the commentaries. Don't misunderstand, they were some very interesting tidbits in there and it was interesting to hear Wright and Bryan Lee O'Malley as well as some of the actors talk about their work and insights in the film, but I think it would have been more effective if they had a separate Interview section or Commentary instead of having to watch the film over and over again to hear it. Like I said, there were some interesting insights there but I was really interested in hearing more from O'Malley with regards to his work and from the actors and their insights into the characters themselves. Yet I really found it interesting that as Wright and the actors were working on this film, Bryan Lee O'Malley was still in the process of finishing the Scott Pilgrim comics series. There was definitely some cross-pollinating media work happening during the creation of the film and the comics and that particular observation really put some things in perspective for me. So overall, I really loved this film and I think the DVD is definitely worth getting.

An Epic Blu-Ray of Epic Epicness,

This review is from: Scott Pilgrim Vs The World Blu-ray/DVD Combo (Blu-ray)
There is nothing more moving, and more real, than the fake world of Scott Pilgrim. You follow the ups and downs of this boy turning into a man. You follow the trial of carnage he leaves in his wake. You follow them both through the star door into subspace. Then you end up at the store, buying the Blu-ray. This particular bundle is packed with goodies. All the blogs are here as well as "Music Videos" for the 4 major songs in the movie as well as different commentaries and special pre-production features. Well worth the money and I am surprised they were able to get this much content bundled together so quickly after the movie was released. This is well worth even the full price tag of $45 once it clears the initial sales boost.

It's difficult to believe, for the people that this movie caters to, that this didn't do very well during it theatrical run. I guess that's what was so good about it. That it knows its audience.

An Absolute Joy to watch,

This review is from: Scott Pilgrim Vs The World Blu-ray/DVD Combo (Blu-ray)
At the end of 2010, I read a reviewer's top 10 list for the year. His number 1 was Scott Pilgrim. His point was that no movie in 2010 gave him more enjoyment to watch. That's how I felt about this movie. My two sons ages 18 & 21 both loved the film, the younger one almost as much as me. I loved that there was no hiding Toronto in winter and some of its landmarks, but that was only worth a few points. I loved the humour -- the mere fact that there were characters called "Lady Dudes"; the recurring joke about the bad haircut, are just two examples. The story, the music, the images, the acting performances, the action, the colours and sounds were all part of the enjoyment. (The Blu-ray with the 7.1 sound helped too.) It was a movie that I was happy to watch 3 or 4 times.
