2.0 out of 5 stars Not good further than 2 metres from wireless router.
And even at 2m mark, it receives poorly. I haven't tried sitting with it very close to the router, but then I would just use an ethernet cable, won't I?

The only reason I bought this was my longer USB wireless adapter broke by bending and that risk is recurring due to the nature of a 3-inch protrusion from the laptop's USB side. So I figured a smaller sized USB...

Works fine with Windows, but won't work natively with Linux -- you need to manually remove the default driver and add one from Realtek's website. Your kernel will recognize the native driver, but it won't connect. To fix this, get the RTL8192CU driver from Realtek. Extract (e.g. with unzip). Blacklist the existing (broken) module by adding rtl8192cu to the end of /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf. Remove the existing mod from your kernel with sudo modprobe -r rtl8192cu. Then build the new one by changing to the directory of the downloaded driver (the directory should begin with TL8188C_8192C) and running the install.sh script. It'll work correctly after that.

The adapter's antenna is somewhat weak, so don't expect it to work over long distances unless there's very little mass between you and your router. But you should know that just from the appearance of it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Tested on Leopard & Windows 7, June 19 2013

For those wondering, this has a Realtek chipset & seems to be working fine on both my Windows 7 machine & Mac OS Leopard machine. Great price, especially for a Mac as wireless adaptors are harder to find for Apple machines, I am surprised. BTW it says it will work on Snow Leopard (which I haven't tried yet). As others have said, it arrived within a reasonable time from Hong Kong to British Columbia. Have since tested on Snow Leopard & Lion (Works well on both) Router is upstairs in house and machines are downstairs so, I would say that the distance is not an issue, at least for my set up

unfortunately didn't work with my LG sound-system, works well on an old xp, not sure how far a range it has but the computer is about 20-30' away with 2 walls inbetween pc and router. my router is D-Link DIR-825 Extreme-N Dual-Band Gigabit Router. Software is easy to use and set up, computer automatically connects to internet, had it set up in no time

The only reason I bought this was my longer USB wireless adapter broke by bending and that risk is recurring due to the nature of a 3-inch protrusion from the laptop's USB side. So I figured a smaller sized USB adapter will not pry so easily, and be all the better especially when marketed as 802.11 G (which is supposed to mean fast!).

I can only confirm this adapter will not break easily. If you're looking for something that downloads at reasonable speeds, this is not for you.
