I admit I was a bit skeptical of this purchase, but the huge price difference between this and a Polar HRM (combined with the $27.41 sale price) made me take a leap. Pyle makes good audio equipment, so how bad could it be?

I admit I was a bit skeptical of this purchase, but the huge price difference between this and a Polar HRM (combined with the $27.41 sale price) made me take a leap. Pyle makes good audio equipment, so how bad could it be?

I'm completely satisfied. When I started adding hard, daily exercise to my calorie counting regimen, it became less clear what my net calories were. I had stopped losing weight because I was exercising too much for the amount I was eating. Having this monitor makes it possible for me to exercise just the right amount every day. Using the calorie counting function, I exercise until my eaten calories are reduced down to my net target (e.g. 2000 calories eaten - 500 calories burned through exercise = 1500 net calories). And the weight is coming off again.

Read the manual. Understand the modes. Enter your vital stats (height, weight, age, gender... I skipped the VO2max and used the default). Wet the two rubber sensors on the strap before each use. Then, get going and watch the calories burn away.

I always turn off the watch when not in use to conserve the battery. I found that the chest strap battery lasted me 6 months with nearly daily use. If the watch is showing ridiculously low heart rate, or the numbers are varying wildly, it's probably time to swap in a new one (it takes a coin to open, and less than a minute's effort).

4.0 out of 5 stars good value, Mar 5 2012
This review is from: Pyle PHRM30 Advance Heart Rate Watch (Sports)
It took a little while for me to receive the shipment but I think the postal service was just slow as I received a confirmation e-mail from Quality Car Audio the next day saying that they shipped it. For $55 (after shipping and taxes) it's a really good value as I've seen Heart Rate monitors go for way more. It takes a bit of practice to get used to playing around with the buttons and learning how to customize the settings but after about an hour of reading the instructions I kind of got the hang of it. I do wish there was a separate button to light up the watch so that I could actually read it at night, it does light up but I think you have to hit the 'stop' button so I can only read it after I've stopped exercising. Maybe there is a way to light it up without stopping the exercise and I just haven't figured it out yet as I've only used it a couple times since I've gotten it.

Instruction not very good, hard to setup. Not a product that I would recommend. Cheap price prove you get what you pay for.

1.0 out of 5 stars Back light led died less than 2 months in, Feb 7 2012

Worked fine out of the box till the back light led died. Less than 2 months in. The Heart rate numbers are too small to read without it. Poor documentation on troubleshooting or warranty

1.0 out of 5 stars Inconsistent Readings, Nov 25 2012

I bought the device so I wouldn't have to grab the grips while running on the treadmill. At my age, best to keep the old ticker under 160 bpm - if you want a device that shows your hearbeat at 70 and then 240 and then 210, this is for you - at least the 30 seconds of panic was entertaining.
