5.0 out of 5 stars Artistic and Entertaining!
Folks love it or hate it.

I think it mainly depends on whether you can appreciate Tarantino's style. If you are expecting to see your ordinary Hollywood movie, chances are you are going to wind up upset, like some of the negative reviews I've read on here.

The movie can, indeed, be quite gruesome. You'll have to be able to see some artistic quality...

3.0 out of 5 stars Bon Bluray

Folks love it or hate it.

I think it mainly depends on whether you can appreciate Tarantino's style. If you are expecting to see your ordinary Hollywood movie, chances are you are going to wind up upset, like some of the negative reviews I've read on here.

The movie can, indeed, be quite gruesome. You'll have to be able to see some artistic quality in that. I can, even though I do not particularly enjoy it. What I enjoy most, however, is the awesome acting. Christopher Waltz, the German officer-bad guy, carries a conversation for almost half an hour with a farmer who is hiding Jews. It's almost like a verbal battle, with sorties, retreats, tactical reforms, minor victories for both sides, until one side finally manages to get the upper hand.

The impeccable costumes, the humor, the jab at Americans and American culture, the completely unhistoric (and therefore to me, unexpected) climax and the great attention to detail, I think, make this a superb movie for those that can appreciate this quality. If you'd rather see an action-packed run-of-the-mill movie, though, this one might not be for you!

4.0 out of 5 stars My New Favorite Tarantino, Dec 8 2009

I loved this movie-- it was a great spin on a movie genre that has gotten stale due to the over abundance of them. Tarantino has gotten back to his roots and set some amazing scenes that are just pure dialogue that sets the mood immediately. Some scenes will have you on the edge of your seat in suspense (mostly with one character's amazing portrayal of the "Jew Hunter") other scenes may have you smirking or laughing out loud at something that may have horrified you earlier in the movie. I have to say that this is my new favorite Tarantino picture.

5.0 out of 5 stars 10/10 Masterpiece !, Dec 29 2009

Inglorious Basterds is Tarantino at his all-time best! Perfection is what this movie really is! The storytelling, the script, the comedy, the horror, the drama, the adventure, art, love! The first chapter is as suspensful as a Hitchcock! The dialogue chapter is an amazingly genius build-up! I could go on forever - a must-see entertainment! A spectacular vengeance orchestration! Bloody Epic! This movie aesthetics are mayhem, daringly imaginative. I can't think of any other director that could even conceive a film like this one, let alone execute.

There are wildly differences of opinion on the social redeeming value of this film. However, the real film that you are buying this for "Nation's Pride" that makes "Triumph of the Will" look like a B movie. Not only do you get the complete film but also the Blu-ray version has "The Making Of Nation's Pride"

For the few, that bough the movie to see Brad Pit and Christoph Waltz that movie is not bad either as long as you look at it as an alternate reality of which few people get to partake. However, I did run into these personalities in Vietnam.

I only saw the Blu-ray version but the blood was still realistic and appropriate to the story. We follow the highjinx of Lt. Aldo Raine (Brad Pitt) as he carves his way across Nazi occupied France and a potential romance between theater lovers with two different ideologies.

The film proves that people do not have a tendency to change.

If you like, Christoph Waltz as COL. Hans Landa then do not miss Ron Leibman as Captain Esteban In "Zorro, the Gay Blade" (1981)

4.0 out of 5 stars Tarantino delivers again., Jun 2 2013

Dark humor, lots of gore, a pretty good action flick.

That being said if you don't like Tarantino's style, you're probably not going to like this movie.

2.0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your time, Jan 11 2013
There were some nice set pieces in Inglourious Basterds (German soldiers playing pub games while the resistance plots at a nearby table) but they tended to drag on. Two and a half hours? How long is the director's cut?

The gratuitous bloodshed, ridiculous story and over-the-top acting sent the missus off to bed after the first hour and I had to watch the rest of the movie by myself. Thanks, Quentin. If I want solitude, I'll read a book.

1.0 out of 5 stars ridiculous, Jan 8 2013

I was totally blown away by how cartoonish this movie turned out to be. I had not seen it in the theatres and had thought it was ultra violent and revolved around these Jewish American soldiers killing Nazis. It is but it isn't. There's hardly any graphic violence which is fine by me but the plot is so stupid, it warrants an investigation into what Tarantino was thinking. I mean, the glorious Kill Bill this sure isn't.

Sure, it's shot well but the whole convoluted basing the story around a movie screening is beyond industry navel gazing. Then, to top it off, (SPOILER ALERT) the fact Hitler gets killed simply by getting shot seems to make the whole two convergent "blow up the theatre" plots redundant.

Honestly, the whole thing is a silly mess. Don't even get me started on the bierkeller scene which made no sense at all in the end or the beginning as to why they met there in the first place.

The performances are first-rate especially Christoph Waltz as the "Jew Hunter" Colonel Hans Landa, even if the opening scene between a French farmer and the German Nazi is done in English after the most laughable request in the movie ("I hear you speak English. My French is not so good. Let's speak in English.") given the rest of the movie is a mix of plausible French, German, English but also implausible Italian.

The best Tarantino ever directed. Casting is super with native speakers (French, German and American) playing convincing roles. Christoph Waltz deserved the 2010 Oscar for best supporting actor in his role as SS Colonel Hans Lander, the Jew hunter, security officer and eventual traitor. Brad Pitt is excellent with his southern American drawl.
A must see.
