It was a harsh life being a Samurai
on October 3, 2015
This is not the only review of this movie, so I'll let the others criticise plot, presentation, acting and so on. I am not a critic - I just watch them. Almost unique to this movie, I think the theme is to present what it meant to be a Samurai in Japan. That is... to do what is right even at the expense of one's life. Once this movie starts to roll and when we get to the climatic fight scene there are literally hundreds of bodies throughout the town, and the town itself is basically trashed. Along the way up to that point there are bodies. The opening 15 minutes which sets the premise for what follows might be disturbing for some. Essentially its dedicated to explain why this Lord has to go. He believes all that are under him have no value at all and are his playthings to do with as he wishes. No plot spoilers here, but to say this one Lord in particular makes Vlad the Impaler look like an amateur and you are shown some examples. The 13 Samari essentially become assassins in what is considered an insurrection. Otherwise , the movie could be titled "13 Samurai". The movie has its moments of humor - its not all slash, but neither is it for the easily affected. I enjoyed it, but I'm not affected by this level of detail of a gruesome death or deaths. Very well done, but not for every one.
