Jackie Evancho has built up such an incredible following in the US and UK as a result of her success on the "Got Talent" shows that it isn't easy to get an opinion of her that has not been "preconditioned" by all the thoroughly well-deserved enthusiasm.
However, in much of continental Europe, she is relatively unknown - for the moment. We were therefore able to carry out an intriguing experiment. We organised a special session of the "OperaDou Jury" at our Home Opera Theatre in the South of France and did a "blind test", playing a couple of tracks from the CD and inviting the jury members to describe WHO they thought could possibly be singing with such amazing purity, perfect pitch and phrasing. The guesses were interesting, ranging from a 40-year-old (bald) countertenor to a choirboy or a mid-30s, amply proportioned, diva. We then showed the jury the "Dream with Me Concert" Blu-ray* (very efficiently shipped by amazon.com to arrive on October 5, the day after it was released in the US). They were therefore among the very first in Europe to see Jackie performing at that concert in full High Definition, on a 330 cm screen.
To say that they were blown away would be an understatement! In fact it was quite a shock that left some of them reeling, not knowing how to react. One or two even felt "uncomfortable" at the idea of such a perfectly mature voice coming from such a tiny frame. For some, it was quite a culture shock as well. You can check out all these fascinating reactions in detail for yourself by simply Googling "operadou" and going to the "Jackie Evancho" page.
*By the way, this Blu-ray disc is zone and region-free, so is perfectly compatible with all players.

First, if you are considering buying this DVD, buy it! Even if you already have the CD, the addition of Dark Waltz alone is worth the price.
Reading other reviews, I am surprised and a little frustrated that people are still praising her with the condition "for her age" or similar. This singer is exceptional for any age, any amount of experience. Personally, I have never heard another vocalist produce this degree of perfection, and I am going back sixty years of listening, singing and directing choirs.
Added bonus: the beautiful visual productions and settings.

If you saw 10-year old Jackie on America's got talent, you were probably amazed at her powerful soprano and mature delivery. Here, 10 months later, you see a remarkable improvement, thanks to David Foster, voice coach Evie Burnett, her family, and most of all Jackie's sheer drive and talent. The concert, at the Ringling estate in Sarasota, FL, is beautifully organized and filmed, and Jackie is ....incredibly good. There are few professional singers of any age who can match the beauty of her versions of the songs. Listen to her singing with Barbra Streisand in Somewhere...Jackie doesn't lose in the comparison. On You Tube there is a synthesized clip where she and Josh Groban are both singing Mi Mancherai. Her version is the one on this DVD. To my ears Jackie sounding a bit better of the two. I've never heard as good a version of Dark Waltz as she sings on this DVD. The audio and video are excellent, and I find myself playing this disk again and again. Yes, some music critics and some internet trolls find flaws in Jackie's singing, often judging her by formal operatic standards...but I've never heard an under 15 year old who approaches her performance at 11 (well, I think Sissel Kyrkjebo, another musical genius, did at 13 in the 1980s)....and her singing is just so darned beautiful....

I was three years late in discovering the wondrously talented Jackie Evancho's appearances on America's Got Talent but even so, they were such unforgettable TV moments that I didn't hesitate to spring for this DVD and have not regretted it in the least. It has been criticized for being too flashy but flash and color go quite nicely with her sublime voice and on some gloomy winter day views of semi-tropical Florida will be most welcome and I will be viewing it all seasons for quite some time, I'm sure. I have to admit to returning often to the Youtube video of her appearance at age nine on Talent Quest, in her earnestly winsome innocence not yet aware of the sensation she was to become. The DVD is, of course, at a different level as far as production values are concerned - more structured and rehearsed but with or without fashion consultants, hair stylists, wardrobe departments and David Foster Jackie's incredible vocal talent can't help but stand out. It's the sort of performance that motivated me to buy a sound bar for my TV, something that had not crossed my mind. (Does this suggest an endorsement contract for Jackie from some electronics company?) Her performance, with the emotion she conveys and the keen intelligence she radiates make this a treasure for those who appreciate the human voice and even for those who hadn't realized they do.

If you are not a Jackie Evancho fan yet, you will be after seeing this HD DVD, shot at the Ringling Museum of Fine art. The intro to this DVD starts with Jackie admiring the rose garden there and reflecting on her favorite things.
In this DVD, she sings some of her favorite pieces accompanied by David Foster as well as a full orchestral ensemble. Some selections are performed in the beautiful recital hall at the Ringling museum of fine art, where pictures of Peter Paul Rubens hang.
One of my favorites that she sings is IMAGINER, in an absolutely stunning performance with Conrad Tao's classical piano accompaniment to her beautiful vibrato voice.
This particular piece is so intense it practically sends shivers down your spine!
Other selections on this DVD are: Dark Waltz, All I ask of You (from the Phantom of the Opera), Somewhere (a video duet with Barbara Streisand), Angel by Sarah McLachlan ,
Mi Mancherai, Ombra Mai Fu, her own composition of Dream with Me, as well as Puccini's Nessum Dorma. These should provide you with great viewing and listening.
As a bonus, there is an interview with David Foster and a photo gallery included.
I have already owned the Dream with Me CD by Jackie Evancho; I listened to her songs numerous times. Still, I found watching her performing the same songs with a live orchestra, a chorus, and solo musicians in this PBS special on DVD an extraordinarily enjoyable experience. Furthermore, I was pleasantly surprised to learn that there are two songs not in the CD - Dark Waltz, originally performed by New Zealand soprano Hayley Westenra, and Mi Mancherai (I will miss you), composed by the Argentina-born Italian composer Luis Bacalov. A musician who stands out in the concert is Conrad Tao, the 16-year old pianist who accompanies Jackie in her song Imaginer. He also accompanies Jackie in Dark Waltz at the violin. He is a virtuoso. A special treat is Jackie's performance of Lovers, featuring a Japanese drum team and Chinese musicians playing traditional Chinese instruments, alongside the orchestra. The Chinese musicians play the Erhu, a two-stringed fiddle, the Guzheng, a 16-26 stringed zither with movable bridges, and the Chinese flute. The performance is an amalgam of western and eastern music. The concert was filmed at the Ringling estate in Sarasota, Florida. In between songs, there are cut scenes of Jackie and David Foster visiting the Ringling Museum, filled with circus props and art collections. There is a room filled with paintings by Peter Paul Rubens. In addition, this DVD contains a 7-minute clip of an interview of Jackie with David Foster. Don't miss out on this extraordinary DVD.
Update: Check out the CD/DVD set @ Dream With Me In Concert.
The CD contains the sound tracks of the DVD, which you can rip into your mp3 player. It may be a better buy.

What a surprise Jackie was to everyone who was at the show and for all those tuned into the program the night that Jackie Evancho sang to us all for the very first time. Since then she has wowed the world and every song she sings you can just close your eyes and think your hearing the voice of an angel. Buy this CD you will not be disappointed.

Sixty-six minutes of a pure Heavenly Angel on Earth.
Jackie Evancho pours her heart, body, and soul into each and every performance. Starting with her rendition of "When You Wish Upon A Star", Jackie captivates the audience from the very beginning of the concert. Ending with, perhaps her best performance, of the classic "Nessun Dorma", you will be wanting for more and wondering where the last hour has just disappeared.
It is one thing to just hear her sing, but to see her at the same time, adds an awesome dimension to her concert that shows her visually expressing the emotion of every note.
Words cannot fully describe the talent of this little girl, in my opinion this product is worth each and every penny of the purchase price and will not disappoint the buyer, sit back with the big screen and 5.1 surround sound and prepare to be astonished.
