4.0 out of 5 stars Nude and funny
I went to see this film at the theatre (yes, that was me) expecting to see the latest installment of the "My career ..., so I will take of my clothes" series (other installments include "Embrace of the Vampire" and "Full Body Massage"). I was pleasantly surprised by a funny movie.
First off, Demi Moore is naked. Surprisingly, I didn't find her "dance" scenes too...

3.0 out of 5 stars Carmen Electra should do this movie.
I thought Carmen Electra should play Demi Moore's character because I think she is a better choice for the part, even I thought Pamela Anderson could play Demi Moore's character. Other than that the movie is not bad.

2.0 out of 5 stars The Problem, Jan. 19 2000
The real problem with this film is basically the problem that many of today's female stars like Demi Moore, Nicole Kidman etc have. Namely, they deeply want to be porn stars but don't have the courage to take the plunge. So they make films like this and EYES WIDE SHUT that have the sheen of being a "real" movie but are basically porn without the money shots. The solution? Stop dipping you toe in the water and just jump in. Hollywood has prepared today's audience so just do it.

3.0 out of 5 stars This Movie Served its Purpose, Dec 5 1999
By
This review is from: Striptease (VHS Tape)
The reality is that any skin flick is going to get panned by the critics no matter how good they are. This genera is not politically correct and we all know it.
This movie was a part of Demi Moore's ongoing statement about artistic limits. The inane plot is not the focus of the movie. The purpose of the movie was to showcase Demi's body and it does a pretty good job of that.
All the objections in previous reviews are valid, but they miss the point. It is too bad that the subject cannot be presented better by writers, directors and producers, but they too appear constrained by political correctness; the stripper has to be forced into the lifestyle and must escape from it, etc. etc. I enjoyed the movie for what it was, but the banality of the plot is an unecessary drag on the film. Demi could have made a wider statement if she had, or was allowed, to expand on her stated love of dancing or of turning men on, which some strippers do.

1.0 out of 5 stars rehash of a rehash of a rehash of a rehash......, Sept. 1 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Striptease (VHS Tape)
Someone should have told Demo Moore that every night on cable there is a movie about a woman who becomes a stripper to support her kids and is then victimized in various ways. It been done before Demi. And before than and before that and before that and before that......
There are a lot of women I might pay $7.00 to see nude, but Silicone-Demi isn't one of them.

1.0 out of 5 stars Pathetic excuse for a movie., June 3 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Striptease (VHS Tape)
I could not even get through this film. Every cliche you could wish for is here. The acting is lacking, and the characters entirely unbelievable. Even the strip scenes hold little interest. I thought there would at least be some humor, but it all falls short in this pathetic excuse for a movie.

4.0 out of 5 stars A must-see for all "die hard" Demi fans....................., March 3 1999
This review is from: Striptease (VHS Tape)
Although the plot is the same, nice girl intimidated by the bad guys, the story line is a bit off the beaten path. There aren't alot of surprises, but the movie really takes off, so to speak, as it goes on. Set in a Florida dance club, the Eager Beaver no less, the supporting cast add a bit of much needed humor to the plot, and most of the supporting cast is very pleasing to the eye. Burt Reynolds is very beliveable as the idiot congressman, as is Vingh Rhames as the loveable club bouncer. As I said, not many surprises, but lots of fun. The true Demi Moore fans will want to pack a lunch for this one, because once won't be enough.

4.0 out of 5 stars a skillful blend of comedy/drama/politics/thriller/crime drama (and Burt Reynolds in a brilliant comic turn) (3.5/5), Oct. 31 2007
(the following review is my own personal opinion)The movie Striptease
is a combination crime drama/comedy/thriller,with a bit of political
humour thrown in.it manages to balance all of these elements well, and
as a result is very entertaining.Demi Moore gets top billing here and
is very convincing as Erin Grant,a woman who loses custody of her
daughter to her small time thug husband( played with great relish by
Robert Patrick). In order to obtain the money to appeal the verdict (i'm
not giving any thing away here)she resorts to being an exotic dancer at
a strip club. There are a few well known names in this movie, but it is
Burt Reynolds who steals the show.Reynolds Plays Congressman David
Dilbeck, who happens to be in the audience(incognito,of course)and falls
head over heals in love?(lust?)with Erin. Congressman Dilbeck also
happens to be a full time horn dog,so comedy ensues. But there is one
scene in particular where Dilbeck is scheduled to appear before a youth
conference and is late.the reason he is late is absolutely hysterical.I
won't give any more away, except to say if you wanna know more, you'll
have to watch this movie.i enjoyed and i'm betting you will too. 3.5/5
