5.0 out of 5 stars A classic casual comedy
This is one of the best comedies i've ever seen, reverse roles, great actors and a perfectly plotted storyline. Romance, comedy, drama, this movie has it all, Uma thurman is great.

I loved this movie it was a good romance and I love actor Jamie Foxx, and actress Uma Therman. It was funny and it wasn't very predictable like most romances are. Only one thing about this movie was I think Jamie Foxx should have had more parts in it, I mean he's really funny and very attractive. Anyways I think this movie deserves a A all the way.

This movie is absolutely one of my all-time favorites...I have seen it several times and I get that same gushy feeling each time I watch it. It is a beautifully done romantic comedy which shows the true talent of comedienne Janeane Garofalo. A must-see for anyone who has ever fallen in love.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love Janeane Garofalo. I love this movie., June 23 1999
By A Customer
As a usual horror movie buff, I was surprised to see how much I loved "The Truth About Cats and Dogs." This movie is so charming I couldn't help but love it. I laughed and laughed all the way through, and when I wasn't laughing, I was smiling. Janeane Garofalo makes a terrific starring role debut as Abby Barnes, a talk radio host who feels that she is punished for how she looks. In fact, she is so convinced that no man would ever give her a chance, that when Brian (Ben Chaplin) asks her out for a drink, she gives him a description of her model neighbor, Noelle (Uma Thurman), and doesn't show up. When Brian shows up at the radio station, Noelle is there, and he automatically assumes that she is Abby. The movie is a hilarious romantic love triangle from then on. All the lead performances, not to mention a good supporting comedic role from Jamie Foxx, are terrific. The movie ends with one of the funniest one-liners in film history.

5.0 out of 5 stars It does *not* rely on Abby not being attractive., June 20 1999
By A Customer
The movie does not hinge on Abby *being* unattractive; it hinges on her *expecting* Brian to think she's unattractive. The same culture that has conditioned most men to ignore her has conditioned her to expect to be ignored. The story is about them *both* overcoming that conditioning.
It's a fabulous movie. I hope it comes out on DVD soon.

5.0 out of 5 stars When you love someone, look doesn't matter....find out why?!, Feb. 25 1999
By A Customer
There's one line from the movie and it's from Brian.it went something like the following: when you love someone, it doesn't matter how s/he looks as long as you love her/him. and on the other hand, when you don't love her/him, even if s/he is beautiful, it won't matter to you.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not Another Dumb Blonde Movie The Truth Is Here!, Feb. 13 1999
The Truth About Cats And Dogs could be another beautiful blonde gets hero movie. But thanks to clever writing and A great standout performance from Janeane Garofalo who should have gotten top billing this movie standsout among great date movies. With A big loveable dog named Hank who happens to wear roller skates this movie just rolls right along.

4.0 out of 5 stars New Spin On Age-Old Fable, Dec 15 1998
By A Customer
Remember what your mother always used to tell you? "Don't judge a book by it's cover?" Well, that theroy once again pops up in the comedy/romance The Truth About Cats and Dogs. It casts Garafalo as a radio talk show host who helps people with pet problems. When one caller asks her out on a date, she stands him up amd he shows up at her office the next day... What follows is a case of switched identities and mayhem, with Thurman pretending to be Garafalo and Garafalo pretending to be "Tadonna", a goat cheese maker. It may not always be totally beliveable, but it's enjoyable the whole way through. It also raises interesting questions about the sexual preferences between men and women. I found myself trying a few of these out on school mates. (Ex. If you were locked up in the Bio-Sphere for a year, who would you take with you? Playboy's playmate of the year or Time Magazine's Woman of the Year?) A good time alone, but also makes a great date movie. (And by the way, Garafalo doesn't look that bad!)

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't judge a book..., Nov. 30 1998

A modern twist on the classic Cyrano de Bergerac, this romantic comedy provides viewers with real and sympathetic characters, many laughs, and insight into women's friendships and insecurities. _Truth_ is an excellent portrayal of body image and perception of self in today's young women, and is a fun, if predictable, time besides.

4.0 out of 5 stars Janeane Garofalo is a woman to die for..., Nov. 30 1998
By A Customer
This movie is great. The movie portrays the insecurities of a person who does not think he or she is phsically attractive rather accurately. I'm really glad the guy ended up with the smart girl. The only problem with the movie is the "idea" that Janeane Garofalo isn't pretty... SHE IS, DAMN IT!!!! However, she was the perfect embodiment of a really insecure person.... Loved the dog too.... A great date movie...
