4.0 out of 5 stars Very solid tablet
Very good tablet overall. As others have said, the Ice Cream Sandwich OS is buggy on this. Fortunately, the tablet automatically upgraded to Jelly Bean. Was still a bit buggy after that. Looking online, it was suggested to do a "cold reboot".

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed with Build Quality
First off, I really enjoyed using this tablet when it was working. The speed was a bit sluggish at times (understandable given the specs), the note-taking software was an awesome bonus to me, and on top of all this the keyboard dock has all the input methods that I wanted in a tablet (but that other tablets on the market lack).

Now for the cons: after a month...

Very good tablet overall. As others have said, the Ice Cream Sandwich OS is buggy on this. Fortunately, the tablet automatically upgraded to Jelly Bean. Was still a bit buggy after that. Looking online, it was suggested to do a "cold reboot".
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
from Asus Transformer forum:

Cold Boot (aka Hard Reset)
- Unplug the power cord and shut the unit off.
- Press and hold VOL DOWN and then POWER button at the same time until after the start-up screen appears and is joined by some small print at the top of the screen then let them both go.
- If the TF boots as normal, you have not accomplished the task, try again

After a few seconds you should see a couple of shapes in the middle of the screen called "Wipe Data" and "Android". The right "Android" will have a green highlight fading in and out. Wait a few more seconds until the term "Cold Booting Linux" appears in the list near the top of the screens and let it reboot. If you own a keyboard dock be sure you do this with the dock connected.

After doing this, it seems to work like a dream now.

I am very pleased with my Asus TF300T Tablet. It was recommended to me by a friend who has one as well. Because he owns one, he is showing me how to use it. It's very easy and user friendly with many useful functions. I would highly recommend this product.

I agonized over this vs the TF700 and in the end am very happy with the purchase. This is the US keyboard option which is what I wanted vs the bilingual keyboard nonsense. I got it for traveling so don't need a powerhouse but all the same this thing blazes through whatever you view on it. Stylish and quite light. The finish is not gloss so you can actually hold on to the damm thing if your hands sweat.

The optional dock really makes this thing awesome if you need to type email. The touch screen is still fully functional when docked so you get the best of both worlds. It also gives you a USB port which can be a big deal when you need one. For what it is the keyboard is great, its a tablet so yes the keys are a bit small, what do you expect ? Make sure you get the US version though or you have extra keys jammed in the same space and lose most of a shift key. Built in function keys are also pretty handy.

It gives priority to the tablet battery when charging so if the tablet is dead and you dock it, it will use the dock battery to charge the tablet. Pretty slick system. You can also individually charge the dock or tablet with the supplied charger which is nice and small but does have the wall prongs sticking out. It charges from USB so if you already have a USB type charger you can use that. Don't lose the cable though, its proprietary. Too bad. One of the things I love about my Nexus S and Kindle is that they just use a standard micro USB plug on the device. Not so in this case.

The display brightness control is quirky as has been stated by many others. The auto setting is just too dark in almost all cases so I manually adjust as needed which is thankfully just a tap away. Still they should get it right, its also crap on my Nexus S so its not limited to tablets. Don't get me wrong though when you crank up the brightness its crazy. You should be able to read this thing on the sun.

SD card slot is also nice if you want to transfer anything.

As an added touch I don't know what they make the cleaning cloth out of but its amazing! cleans all smudges from the screen very easily. Its seriously good.

4.0 out of 5 stars an unexpected surprise, Jan 26 2013

Take this for what it's worth but here goes:

The keyboard keys feel flimsy. I have an old eeepc and the keys feel more sturdy. Writing emails on this machine make sense. Writing a paper/essay would not be ideal. BTW, if the keyboard battery is out of juice, you can't type on this unit (even when the tablet is connected to the keyboard). Battery runs down on the keyboard first before the tablet (thats a given, but im just stating this because of the prior comment about no-typing when battery is dead.

The whole unit feels heavy, but the tablet itself is light. But, its portable so its not really that heavy.

I prefer this over the ipad just because of the customization, but to each their own.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed with Build Quality, Dec 29 2012

The speed was a bit sluggish at times (understandable given the specs), the note-taking software was an awesome bonus to me, and on top of all this the keyboard dock has all the input methods that I wanted in a tablet (but that other tablets on the market lack).

Now for the cons: after a month of light usage, the touch screen randomly started malfunctioning one day. My touch only worked 50% of the time, and the cursor would jump, making it hard to log in to the tablet. The next day, I noticed a tiny crack at the base, right where the tablet connects to the dock. Fast forward 3 days, and the crack grew larger. The touch screen no longer works. Reading other reviews on a variety of different sites, this is not an uncommon problem with the asus transformer series tablets. I'm just lucky that it happened to me within the return period, and that Amazon has thus far been exceptional in their help with me returning this.

Until I'm convinced that quality control in the tablet market is better, I'm going to hold off on spending my hard earned money. For $500 I should be able to get something that is sturdy and doesn't break spontaneously.
