This game is a wonderful tribute to 25 years of Final Fantasy history. It features a robust track list, with more songs being added on as downloads for a dollar as well, that brings back memories from all the best moments in every final fantasy. As someone who has played all the numbered Final Fantasy games I had (and am still having!) a very rich experience and it brought out in me an intense desire to go back and replay all the games! If only I had the time! While the rhythms can be pretty easy to learn there are higher difficulties that can be very challenging, especially on battle songs which are usually fast.
The game has a ton of things to unlock such as secret characters, songs, and challenges, and of course there is the added challenge of maxing out every character's level and unlocking all their abilities. Putting together a team that gels well for any challenge is a fun way to link up your favourite main characters as well to give your team a unique piece of your memories. (I personally lead with Zidane since FF9 was my first entrance into the series)
However, this game is good fun for people who haven't played every Final Fantasy or any Final Fantasy at all. It's nice to know all the music but people who I have let play my copy all had fun without recognizing any of the songs or having only played a few of the games. As a rhythm game it does a lot to make people comfortable playing. Despite this, I don't foresee a lot of non-Final Fantasy fans attempting this title.
If you're a fan of FF then you likely already have this but if you're still holding out there is nothing to fear. Even if you only play it on the easiest difficulty remembering great moments and battling familiar foes has never been more fun!

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing, July 26 2012
Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Theatrhythm: Final Fantasy (Video Game)
For those who are fans of rhythm-based gaming (such as guitar hero, DDR or Osu!) and also fans of the Final Fantasy games, this is the game for you. It features songs from all 13 final fantasy series and at first you will have access to 3 songs per title, however by gaining points and continually playing this number keeps going up.

The game starts off fairly easy giving you the chance to play the "Basic Scores" of all the hit final fantasy music (which is all really awesome) but then ramps up with each difficultly level. The "Ultimate Score" is difficult enough to satisfy those that play a lot of rhythm-based games and are thus fairly good at them. The Chaos Shrine gives the epitome of the range difficulty levels, having both easiest and most difficult of scores to play. The Chaos Shrine also uses street pass so you can pick up new "Dark Notes" to play from others!.

There are 3 main ways to play. Battle music (similar to Guitar hero and DDR), Event (more like Osu!) and Field (where you have to move the stylus to follow the notes). Combine this with the 3 game play modes (series, challenge and Chaos Shrine) and you will spend plenty of time perfecting each and trying to get the "S" rating in all the scores.

There are rewards for playing enough including collectible cards, songs for the music player and a theater (which features clips from each of the series). You can also level up characters, change abilities on your party, equip items and unlock secret characters. This makes theatrhythm a good transition game for those that may not be into the the rhythm-based games.

Those that are not all that familiar with the final fantasy titles may not find as much fun in this as someone who has played a great deal of them. However, the music is fantastic which made me greatly enjoy the titles that I had not yet played. People who are familiar will be delighted to see the return of their favorite characters and monsters =D

At first I thought the game would be just like the demo...but I was so wrong! This is definitely a game that I would recommend to anyone. The music itself is fantastic (considering it is from the main titles) and the gameplay is fun and challenging as well. Overall, I'm damn happy that I bought it.

Great rhythm game for beginners and experts. There are usually 3 songs for each numbered Final Fantasy title from 1 through 13 with different difficulty settings for each. I kind of wish they had more modes or variation in game play as you can beat the game's story mode, if you can call it that, in several hours or less. The replay value is there for the hardcore who wants to complete each song, including the downloadable ones, on every difficulty level, but after 15 hours of play I feel like I've seen enough of what the game has to offer. I would say this game is worth $30 out of the $40 I paid. It's definitely fun, for rhythm game enthusiasts as well as Final Fantasy fans, but it just feels a bit short on content.

Awesome game with innovative gameplay and great music from the Final Fantasy serie. Very addictive, and you don't have to have played Final Fantasy games in order to enjoy it.
