4.0 out of 5 stars More for Blues fans
First time I saw a clip from this show was in a documentary called 25 x 5. In the twenty five years since I have never seen any additional video until now. Where it is great to see the Stones (well three of them) with one of their idols this film is more for fans of Muddy Waters. This is a Waters concert with some of the Stones on some of the tracks. 3.0 out of 5 stars More like Muddy Waters & The Rolling Stones
This is mostly a Muddy Waters live DVD. Only 3 of the Rolling Stones [Jagger, Richards and Woods] plus Ian Stewart actually appear on the DVD. In addition of those 4 Jagger is on just a few tracks [sitting at a table with the crowd] while the other three don't actually appear until almost half way through the concert.
In reality, it should of been called something...

This review is from: Live At The Checkerboard Lounge Chicago 1981 (DVD+CD) (DVD)
Even Muddy Waters is not on every track. This was shot on 80's video but it must have been pretty high end equipment because it looks really good. Not good enough for Blu Ray but looks great on DVD. The audio is 5.1 including a DTS track so the audio was done very well also. It run's a little over 90 minutes and has a couple of bonus tracks. One taken from the stones '81 tour.
One thing I did notice is you can literally see the tension between Jagger and Richards on stage. By this point they were hardly talking to each other. Mick ticked off that after being a heroin zombie for most of the last decade Richards now wanted to regain at least some control and Richards at the end of his tether with Jagger over Jagger thinking he was the Stones. If you watch "Let's Spend The Night Together" you can see a billboard over the stage saying Mick Jagger with the Rolling Stones. So both hated each other. Remember after this tour in 81 the stones would not Tour again until '89.
But back to the DVD. if you love the Blues get it. If you are a Stones Fanatic or completest get it. If your new to the party start somewhere else like "Ladies and Gentleman" or "Gimmie Shelter". Once again Eagle Rock hits it out of the park. Well done!

In reality, it should of been called something like Muddy Waters with The Rolling Stones.
Aside from the video - shot in standard definition, the camera work isn't that great. Sound is decent.
Extras include an additional track from the Checkerboard plus The rolling Stones doing one track during their 1981 tour.
The CD that comes with this package contains just over half of the music on the DVD.
Packagine is full of checkerboards - a bit ugly actually.

5.0 out of 5 stars Certainly Worth Seeing, Oct 29 2012

Just seeing Muddy Waters with his band was worth the ticket. Mick looked and sounded out of place. Keith and Ronnie held their own ground playing with the Chicago blues masters. A must for Muddy Waters and Rolling Stones fans like myself.
