I thoroughly enjoyed A Forest of Gold. It is fun, witty and I couldn't help relating to Emily in many instances. The engaging story is supplemented with historical details that never seem forced on the narrative, but occur naturally and give the novel a great historical dimension. I would recommend this to children and adults alike as there is something for everyone whether you are interested in life in small town Northern Ontario, reminiscing on your childhood, or simply enjoying the anecdotes Emily relates in the novel's journal style. A Forest of Gold is proof that publishing companies shouldn't look down on young authors.
