This review is from: Nighthawks (Full Screen) (DVD)
The "Nighthawks" copy I am reviewing is the Good Times 2001 full screen DVD version with a clear picture and a crisp soundtrack albeit in mono. It's really too bad the audio wasn't remastered in 5.1 Dolby Digital then Keith Emerson's incredible soundtrack would really rock.
In "Nighthawks" the stage is set for a game of cat and mouse between New York City undercover Cop Deke DaSilva (Stallone) and the infamous international terrorist Wulfgar played by the very underrated (Rutger Hauer). This action / thriller grabs on to you from the opening sequence and doesn't let go until the final confrontation between Deke and Wulfgar.
In my opinion Rutger Hauer was the perfect choice to play the role of the cold as ice villain Wulfgar. As for the main character Deke, well that's just typical (sly) in action. I really believe that this 1981 action / thriller is highly underrated and I definitely recommended it to Stallone fans that haven't seen it.
Look for the beautiful Lindsay Wagner in a very minor role as she appears briefly as Stallone's wife. Billy Dee Williams is really good in his supporting role as Deke's partner Matthew Fox. "Nighthawks" makes excellent use of New York City locales and has a solid supporting cast. Overall "Nighthawks" is great entertainment at a cheap price; you definitely can't go wrong with this one.
