Long-time fan quite disappointed,

This review is from: Divided By Night (Audio CD)
I won't write a length review. I'm no music critic, so I won't go into the analysis of the beats or anything like that. I will just state my opinion, as someone who is a huge fan of TCM - as someone who has listened to every song they recorded and saw them twice in concert/club - that this departure from the traditional TCM beats just doesn't work for me.
In many ways, they do actually stick to their original style but you can't help but feel they're TRYING to be different, which is fine. In fact, I'm happy about that...just that this "change", FOR ME, doesn't cut it. The tracks are mostly flat, the beats aren't satisfying and the whole album is just underwhelming. Some tracks are good though, Divided by Night and Drown in the Now, being the only two tracks that keep this thing afloat.
When a TCM song comes on in my car, I usually "feel" the beats, and that's why I love this genre. I love the synthesis, the build up and the tempo. It gets me pumped...and I'm sure that's why most TCM fans love them so much.
So if you're looking for that kind of 'pump', I'm sorry to tell you that you probably won't find it here. Then again, tastes for electronica vary wildly...and who knows...maybe you'll like it. But if you want CLASSIC TCM beats, don't bother.
