This review is from: Ultimate Hits: Rock and Roll Never Forgets (Audio CD)
The good:This is a good set and I'm glad to finally get Ramblin' Gamblin' Man. For someone who has not already bought Greatest Hits 1 and then 2, this is the collection to get. Not only are almost all of the big hits from both those collections included here, but the sound quality is louder and better. Note About the Sound Quality: Someone posted a complaint about the sound of certain songs, which worried me... I checked it out, compared it to previous Greatest Hits CD's and also to the individual album CD's. I think that person was complaining about the previous Greatest Hits CD's and NOT this one. Greatest Hits 1 is very quiet and not a clean/clear as this one, so maybe the dropouts are on THAT CD. There are no dropouts on this CD on the songs stated by the other reviewer and the sound is louder and clearer, with maybe too much highs sometimes. Overall I think the individual album CD's sounded best because they had the volume without being too loud but were warmer and better balanced and probably less compressed. However, I don't think most people would notice the difference unless they played it on a decent stereo system anyways. The Bad: The guy had a LOT of hits. Like many others, I also feel Segar deserves a 3-4 CD box set in order to do him and his fans proper justice. This was a lost opportunity to give fans all the hits missing from Greatest Hits 1 and Greatest Hits 2... this should have been Greatest Hits 3. Instead THIS collection has almost all of Greatest Hits 1 (11 of the 14 songs) and half of Greatest Hits 2 (8 of 16 songs, the last track is a bonus video), making the other purchases redundant. Also, this CD includes the studio version of Katmandu while the hit version was live (the studio version is still good but not the radio played hit I'm familiar with). This CD is missing these songs from Greatest Hits 1: The Fire Inside, C'est La Vie, In Your Time This CD is missing these songs from Greatest Hits 2: Understanding, Beautiful Loser (studio version, it has the live version instead), Sunspot Baby, Manhattan, New Coat of Paint, Chances Are, Satisfied, Tomorrow. Hope that helps. |
