Kudos to John Mayer! It takes a lot of chutzpah (or an unsilencable drive,) to release a cd of such raw power and honesty. This is clearly the result of artistry that was too powerful to be kept inside. I'm so glad that the inside found its way out. At this point, it is too late for this to be an introduction anymore, but it is great fun to witness the evolution of such a talented and committed artist. The melodies are haunting; comforting yet provacative all at once. John Mayer is a musician, an exemplary guitar player, and, of particular interest to me, a master lyricist. He captures a spirit that exemplifies rebellion and faith in such a compelling way as to make me question my own beliefs.
Great guitar work on "No Such Thing," "Love Soon," and "Neon." A touch of humor as well, as in "My Stupid Mouth." We all just want to be liked, and to be funny, and is there any one of us for whom it has not at least once, backfired painfully? Thank you John Mayer, for giving expression to experiences we can all relate to.
