A Fine Adaptation,
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Atlas Shrugged Pt1 DVD (DVD)
Having read the novel on which this film is based, I found the adaptation to be faithful to the story and ideals of the author. As is a common practice among filmmakers today, the plot begins with many seemingly unrelated bits and pieces which eventually are revealed as being connected. The cinematography is well done, as is the soundtrack. The actors, although not considered to be from the "A List," are competent at their craft and I was effectively drawn into the what-will-become-of-them frame of mind. This is the first installment of a planned trilogy and it had been skillfully done so that it stands alone . . . in the event, I suppose, the public's response to the film was mediocre and then the plans for making Parts II and III could be cancelled. However, the ending of Part I does leave you hanging enough to know that the story would - could - continue.
Caution: I suspect that those who have not read the book will not likely "enjoy" the movie. On the other hand, a few of these folks may be prompted to pick up the novel which, by the way, is well toward the top of my list for "Best Reads of the 20th Century."
P.S. There was a rumour at one time that Angelina Jolie was flagged to play the lead female role. That would have been a major miscasting of the character and, personally, I am relieved that that did not come to pass. :0)
