the stench of death is all over this,

This review is from: Kids In The Hall: Death Comes To Town (DVD)
I should say at the outset, I'm a huge fan of the KITH. I'm STILL looking for "Aroomba" on DVD...
However, this is a paper-thin idea with lots of endless contrived situations, aimless 'parody' amid some low-brow humour in the form of 'cutting edge' sexual and potty jokes. I didn't laugh once.
The jokes aren't original, and I recognize that I shouldn't get so invested in 'trying to figure out the murder', but then why make it a mini-series, and if you don't put any real satire or clever wit in it, what's the point?
For example, the local news (is this town big enough for a local news?) weather woman is called Heather Weather. The no-tell motel is actually called the No-Tell Motel. Clever, eh?
All the characters are variations on those we've seen the kids do before - Bruce shows the littlest amount of effort: he plays two different characters almost identically (the mayor and prosecutor) and the rest of the time uses his 'flying pig' voice for Ricky. He also loses points for continuing to think that wearing a 70s outfit, carrying a stubbie and referencing old Canadian bands from the time period ("I'm off to see the Stampeders tonight") is funny.
Mark and Dave show the most acting versatility in characters, but again neither does anything new.
The jokes are predictable and tired, and again...forget about the mystery; even if you wanted to figure it out, it's impossible because you don't get all the information at the outset, or even half-way through.
Again, I know what this is supposed to be - I know it's not supposed to be believable. But I do expect it to be funny.
