Seemingly-simple Rock music with a message, Jun 19 2004

This review is from: Frogstomp (Audio CD)
Speaking from the mouth of an experienced music listener, I can safely say that there are no similarities between Nirvana and Silverchair, unless you count having blond hair a similarity. Nirvana has some songs that were within the listenable territory, but they were far from what everyone has hailed them as. Nirvana had no message to tell teens, but Silverchair do. Especially on Frogstomp. All of the songs on the album have great hooks and melodies, but the icing on the cake is Daniel Johns' surprisingly well-written lyrics. They're simple yet still have meaning. Silverchair create full-on music without all the gibberish and pretentiousness that Kurt Cobain had. Johns writes songs about being anti-abuse (whether they be human or drug abuses), anti-war, anti-suicide, and the uncertainty most teenagers feel. I suggest buying Frogstomp instead of Nevermind, but that's only if you want to hear somebody that actually has something to say worth hearing.
Fave tracks as of right now: Israel's Son, Faultline, Undecided, Pure Massacre, and Shade.
