I will be up front and explain that Carl Yastrzemski was my favorite player, and the Montreal Expos were my favorite baseball team. Therefore, I could not help but enjoy this book. Bill Lee spells out stories that had me breaking out with laughter. He also seems to be completely honest and upfront about his life and baseball. Lee does not always get along with management, and is not afraid to state his point of view. He discusses the Rodney Scott trade. I remembered this issue, because at the time the Expos did not seem to have a competent replacement to play second base. The news of the trade just seem to have come out of the blue. According to Lee, manager Fanning just had a bias against Rodney Scott, and this was the reason for dumping Scott. These type of inside sports books like Jim Bouton`s Ball Four, quite often offend a lot of people. The locker room code of confidentiality should never be broken, in the minds of many people. I on the other hand, enjoyed reading about the real world of baseball. I also lent this book to a number of friends, and always had a positive feed back.
