A Little Underwhelming - Lousy Support from Archos,
This review is from: Archos 70 - 250 GB Internet Tablet (Black) (Electronics)Have had this tablet for about 6 months now and we use it as expected - light web surfing, occasional email, some simple games, looking up things while away from the main home computers, etc. It's certainly passable in those repects.
The 3 star rating comes from a couple of issues: The 250Gb storage does not always "spin up" when our device launches. It often takes several reboots and some shaking to get it going. Have approached Archos on several occasions about this and the sporadic, delayed response has been awful. Effectively, they don't seem to bother actually reading the trouble ticket. The few responses I've received have been either automated of entirely off-topic.
As for the device itself, compared to iPads (or the RIM Playbook) and our Android and Windows phones it feels a little sluggish. Some games are just not responsive enough to be playable. Also note that you need to buy extra media codec packs from Archos directly if you want to watch many video formats. This is despite the inference on various sites that these standard formwats are supported natively. Although I've paid the money for these, I've not been able to get them to work successfully - again Archos is of no help whatsoever. The 7" form factor is perfect for us though.
For the responsiveness of both the device and Archos, I would say this this is a little overpriced.
