This review is from: Anthology (W/2 Live Tracks) (Audio CD)
I heard a dj in DC on the Oldies station by the name of Johnny Dark state that Chuck Berry's only #1 record was " My Ding-A-Ling" in 1972. This dj, unlike the CBS-FM dj's in New York, refuses to clarify the difference between pop hits and R&B hits. You see the dj's at CBS-FM ( whom I've listened to many times on my jaunts to the big apple ) would've stated that Chuck Berry hit #1 three times on the R&B charts with his first hit in 1955 "Maybelline" sticking at #1 on the R&B charts for a whopping 11 weeks. Chuck hit #1 again in 1957 with "School Day"-it was #1 for 5 weeks. Chuck hit #1 again in 1958 with Johnny B.Goode. So here's the correct way to state this legends chart accomplishments-Chuck Berry had three #1 hits on the R&B charts and one #1 hit on the pop charts. Unfortunately I do not have the power to correct the mis-information that is being spewed relentlessly through dj's lips on our radio stations-for if I did- this wrong information would change.
