Not thrilled., Feb 16 2012
This review is from: The Phantom of the Opera at the Royal Albert Hall [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray)
This production, particularly as a Blu-ray, is a disappointment. For starters, the recording is in stereo, not surround so not paricularly thrilling. Using a surround receiver's decoder to manufacture a surround audio is not the same. Secondly, the video is often, and quite obviously, not synched with the music, which leads me to believe that much of the soundtrack is not the live theatre production, but rather a studio recording and that the video was heavily edited from the actual sequencing. Watching the video, there are signs that it was not all footage from the 25th anniversary performance either. Having purchased, and loved, the Blu-ray of Les Miserables, which was a fantastic product, I expected better.
