TOP 500 REVIEWERon March 8, 2012
I have made many items with my new griddler since recieving it - grilled provolone on gluten free sour dough, Pesto grilled chicken breast with smoked gouda on gluten free rolls, grilled pork chops, grilled chicken, grilled bell peppers and onions, bacon and grilled burgers as well as using the griddle for gluten free pancakes and eggs. I prefer grilling my gluten free bread on this grill vs using my KitchenAid toaster. The elements heat quickly. The cooking is uniform. It cooks very fast - beautifully grilled pork chops for supper in 6 minutes! It cleans much easier than my old George Foreman and surprisingly takes up no additional space. The length of the cord is nice - longer than most small kitchen appliances - and I love the hidden cord storage on the back of the appliance - good sized hooks that the cord does not fall off of and hides it completely away. The knobs are also easy to read/use and I like that it has a green indicator light to let you know when the grill/griddle has reached it's desired temperature. The machine does get hot and you do have to allow the machine to sit and cool down after using it before attempting to clean it and put it away - but it cleans so effortlessly that I have not found this to be a big problem. I just allow the machine to cool completely and wipe out with a damp cloth - nothing more. The non-stick coating is durable and thick. I like that the grill plates are reversible - so I don't have to find additional storage for the griddle plates - and that they are easy to remove and put back on. I do feel that for the price of it, the waffle plates should have been included. I love the stainless look of the appliance. The exterior wipes easily and looks like a professional item. I also love that the grease cup is hidden underneath the appliance - another item I do not have to find additional storage for.

The reason I have rated this item a 4 star instead of a 5 star is for two reasons: The item has no locking mechanism to keep it closed and therefore cannot be stored vertically up on end. Wouldn't that make sense? Not everyone has the kitchen space required to store such large items. Secondly, I was hoping that the floating hinge would be able to be adjusted to 'hover' like the Wolfgang Puck version...giving cooks the added benefit of being able to broil foods - like melting cheeses on open faced sandwiches without having to stand there holding the top plate just above your food and hoping you don't touch the top of the cheese and ruin your sandwich.

All in all this is a great appliance and I am very pleased. I would buy it again. I would recommend it to a family member. I spent a lot of time reviewing grills before I made my purchase and it came down to this one and the Wolfgang Puck grill/griddle combo. I chose this one in the end because it has 2 griddle plates - WP only has 1, but now that I know that I can't broil with it - the WP one you can - I am not sure which is the better trade off. Research your items carefully and decide which features would work best for you and your family. These items are not cheap and you will likely be stuck with the one that you purchase for a really long time.

There are several "generations" of this Griddler and they all look alike and often even use the same picture in ads-like the one above. While shopping for a griddle we have seen different models of the "Griddler" for sale in various stores and at quite a disparity of prices-and they are actually quite different from each other.
This also explains the wide variance of positive and negative reviews on this item with mentions of "melting" plastic plate clips, uneven grilling, and variations in the grease cups etc.
Cuisinart does not help the situation on their web site by avoiding the issue entirely and apparently if you call their customer service you will not get any clarification from them either according to other reviews I have read. (I spent too much time on this-to the point where I almost decided to go for one of the less confusing George Foreman units instead).

Having said that, the most recent model is a really good, and extremely versatile piece of kitchen ware and I would highly recommend it-in particular the ability to use it in the closed position for grilling both sides simultaneously without "flipping" or in the open position for twice the capacity (requires flipping) is great. Some experimentation is required as to which has the best results for whatever you are grilling.

To sum up, the model you want is the one with 2 reversible plates (some of the early models apparently came with 4 separate plates), "H"shaped burners for even heat distribution (some models have "O " shaped burners that just go around the perimeter of the griddle plate, and an angled grease catcher that slides in under the right side of the device and catches the grease from the rear of the Griddle plate.(you can not see it in Amazons pic-it fits between the two legs on the right side).
If buying On-line from sources other than AMAZON -make sure that this is the one you get because it appears that earlier versions (all called the GRIDDLER-and looking VERY similar) can be problematic . For the same reason I would stay away from ones advertised as "remanufactured"-because you will not necessarily know which one you are buying since it seems that even the model numbers (if even mentioned) are not necessarily accurate.....

I purchased the Griddler primarily as a way to use up make hot sandwiches for my husband, it's a great way to use up leftover meat. I also love the fact that it can be opened flat to cook pancakes and breakfast foods.

So far my experience with it is good. The reason I only gave it four stars thus far, is because the first time I used it I managed to scratched the non-stick coating on the lower grill plate. I was aware not to use any metal on the plates after reading the manual on using the appliance. I used a plastic spatula to remove the sandwiches I had cooked. I was surprised and disappointed that they would scratch that easily and on my first use.

I love that unlike the other appliances that only have a 1 year warranty, this one has a 3 year warranty. I would recommend this appliance but consider an even softer tool for cooking with it such as silicon.

This grill is just great! It's a pretty good price too. I have not purchased a grill prior to this one, so I don't have much to compare it to. I have used it for every meal this past week, simply amazing. It's so quick and easy to cook and to clean.

Beware: The title and description is incorrect (at the time of this posting anyways). The CGR-4C model is discontinued. This is actually the CGR-4NC. The CGR-4NC is just a new model of the same grill. Instead of having drip cups, it has a built-in drip tray. I believe the issue with the "fragile plastic clips" is resolved (it seems fine on mine, and I remember reading a review on an external website that the new model fixed that issue). Do check out the Amazon.com add for the *real* product description. http://www.amazon.com/Cuisinart-GR-4N-5-in-1-Griddler/dp/B002YD99Y4

The grill is actually a bit smaller than I expected (the burgers on the main picture have to be mini-burgers :P), but it is still a very big surface, especially when opened completely, so this is not a problem. I can make 2 sandwiches at once very easily (or 3 smaller sandwiches).

Just a tip to those of you that decide to get this grill. The top grill is a bit heavy, so if you used particularly soft bread like Wonder Bread, your grilled cheese sandwich may come out looking like a grilled cheese pancake (I am exaggerating, of course). A firmer bread would be preferable, if you are only cooking a single panini/sandwich).

I loved this product and used it about twice a week. I took good care of the grill plates by not using any metal utensils and always washed them with a soft washcloth. The coating on the plates is now starting to buble up and peel off. I have only had it for about a year. I am unable to claim warranty because I have misplaced the receipt. In case you misplace the receipt Cuisinart wants you to mail the whole unit back to them to check the manufacturing date on the unit and then they will decide whether to let you claim warranty or not. I will never purchase a cusinart product again. The replacement cost for the plates is $40 per plate + tax + shipping and handling.

This is a great unit. A bit big for one person but acceptable, and beats the pants off the George Forman type. The grill plates are easily removed (just a push of a button) and I put them into my dishwasher.

The only problem is that the outside gets very hot when in use and on the first use I burned my finger on the side arm of the handle so BE CAREFUL and don't allow children to touch.

I really like this griddler. It is so easy to use, and makes grilling a very simple experience. It's so nice to just put a couple of steaks on the grill, close the lid, and then come back a few minutes later to your delicious dinner.

I also like that you can open it up and lay it flat to use both the top and bottom surfaces for cooking. I live alone, so I don't need to make use of this too often, but it is a great feature.

Cleaning the plates is also very simple. They are easily removable and the teflon coating makes removing any baked on food very painless.

One thing that I've noticed, and the reason I only gave this grill 4-stars is that it doesn't seem to drain the fat away very well. The bottom plate is not really angled enough to make the grease flow into the plastic grease-catcher. You can put something under the front to tilt it back a little bit more, but it seems like something that Cuisinart should have noticed during testing. It seems a bit silly to have a grease-catcher on this grill when more often than not, it's completely clean after I've finished cooking. Maybe I just need to cook greasier food?

Anyway, that small grip aside, I am very happy with my purchase and would certainly recommend it to anyone looking for this type of appliance.

Have been using this regularly for a year now and still love it. Haven't tried steaks again but we do enjoy it for pork chops. When I shop at Costco I get a large amount of ham, cheese and panini rolls and I make up a bunch of sandwiches with mustard or mayo for the freezer. I wrap them in plastic wrap individually and defrost them for 1-2 minutes in the microwave before grilling. You can then add sliced tomato, peppers, rub a little olive oil on the top and bottom of the sandwich while the grill is heating. Great for lunchtime drop-in guests or just for us.

As long as you spray the plates with Pam, this is a no-stick burger grill extraordinaire. Drip cup catches the runoff, mess keeps to a minimum. We have replaced our outdoor BBQ with this.

This grill opens up to make a full grill pad. We can make more than we had planned. Once we got it, we planned on making paninis, grilled cheese and maybe hamburgers... We have made so much more food (pancakes, eggs, steaks, etc.)!!!

Just make sure you use a soft rubber spatula as the grills scratch easily...

Enjoy!!!
