classic classic Jan. 12 2005
By Heather S. Leabman - Published on
Format: Audio CD
Why is this soundtrack so hard to procure? "Tootsie" is a genuine classic, Hoffman was robbed of a well-deserved Oscar and the entire film wraps up the eightes as a decade with women vs. men, role-playing, role stereotypes, and the gradual assertion of women - most of all the respect towards women - which Michael Dorsey can only come to after he has lived as one. Now onto the music: if any lyric can make you cry, Stephen Bishop's "It Might Be You" does. If you're older and unmarried without children, it is a wistful and indellible song. "Tootsie" is only heard partially in the film as Michael dresses as Dorothy for the first morning's taping at Southwest General. What a blast! Sure, some of the instrumental score is a bit dated, but if we date everything, we'll never have any classics to fall back upon. "An Actor's Life" sums it all up. If you're a Tootsie devotee', buy the soundtrack. Worth every penny.

Great soundtrack reissued. Feb. 12 2013

In 1980s, one of my favorite song is " It might be you" sung by Stephen Bishop. However, the song version I found in Stephen Bishop's CD "Best Of Bish" was a mess. I thought something went wrong at the mastering process, the speed became slower at the middle of the song. I have to buy this soundtrack in order to obtain this song. Great sound quality, and some other good music as well in the CD.

I loved listening to the soundtrack when it was out on album, so getting this was a nice treat. Ernie Watts is one of the more unheralded players (quite sad) and for me, stars on the soundtrack. This was recorded during Dave Grusin's emergence as one of the leaders of this musical style, and he assembled an all-star line-up of great players.

It might be dated for younger people, but I still enjoy the tracks.

Nice saxophone licks. The additional songs are rather bland.
